Cardinals optioned RHP Sem Robberse to Triple-A Memphis; reassigned RHPs Tekoah Roby, Gordon Graceffo, Michael McGreevy and Ryan Loutos, LHP Connor Thomas, INF Arquimedes Gamboa and Cs Aaron Antonini and Jimmy Crooks to minor league camp.
No real surprises here among the latest batch of cuts from Cardinals camp, with Roby representing the highest profile name. The 22-year-old righty has more diverse opinions from scouts and evaluations than most prospects, but there’s no denying that he’s likely to reach the majors at some point during the 2024 campaign.
  • STL Shortstop #70
Cardinals re-signed INF Arquimedes Gamboa to a minor league contract.
Gamboa signed a minor league pact with the Cardinals last offseason and wound up posting a solid .739 OPS with nine homers and a career-high 25 stolen bases across 545 plate appearances in 133 games this season for Double-A Springfield. The 26-year-old middle infielder was a notable prospect a few seasons ago with the Giants, but has yet to reach the majors.
  • FA Shortstop #93
Cardinals signed SS Arquimedes Gamboa to a minor league contract.
Gamboa provides the Cardinals with some upper-level minor league middle infield depth. The 25-year-old shortstop, who has yet to reach the majors, batted .239/.337/.349 with four homers and seven steals across 296 plate appearances last year for Triple-A Sacramento in the Giants’ minor league system. He was an interesting prospect a few years ago with the Phillies, but he’s merely organizational depth at this stage of his career.

  • FA Shortstop #93
    Giants released INF Arquimedes Gamboa.
Gamboa signed a minor league contract with the Giants last offseason and has been cut loose after hitting just .239/.337/.349 with four home runs and seven steals in 296 plate appearances over 82 games this season for Triple-A Sacramento. The 24-year-old infielder was one of the better prospect in the Phillies’ system a few years ago, but simply hasn’t hit at all in the upper minors.

  • FA Relief Pitcher #47
Giants optioned RHP Jakob Junis and RHP Kervin Castro to Triple-A Sacramento; Reassigned INFs Alex Blandino, Arquimedes Gamboa and Jason Krizan, C Jhonny Pereda, OFs Austin Dean and Luis Gonzalez and RHP Taylor Williams to minor league camp.
With that large batch of cuts, the Giants now have just 34 players remaining in big league camp as they try to trim that number down to 28 before Opening Day. Junis pitched well in Cactus League action -- hurling four shutout innings with a 0.50 WHIP and 4/0 K/BB ratio -- there simply wasn’t room for him in the Giants rotation after the Carlos Rodon signing. He’ll bide his time at Triple-A until he’s needed.

  • FA Shortstop #93
Giants signed INF Arquimedes Gamboa to a minor league contract.
Gamboa, 24, was a minor league free agent after posting a .730 OPS with 10 homers over 104 games with Double-A Reading and Triple-A Lehigh Valley in the Philadelphia organization. He’ll provide some infield depth for San Francisco in 2022.

  • FA Shortstop #93
Phillies sent INF Arquimedes Gamboa outright to their alternate training site.
The move clears him from the 40-man roster. Gamboa was designated for assignment last week, but will stick around as organizational depth. The 22-year-old batted just .188/.305/.270 over 421 plate appearances in Double-A last year.

  • FA Shortstop #93
Phillies designated INF Arquimedes Gamboa for assignment.
The move clears a spot on the 40-man roster for Phil Gosselin. Gamboa was highly thought of when he was signed as a teenager, but he hasn’t worked out.

  • FA Shortstop #93
Phillies purchased the contract of INF Arquimedes Gamboa from High-A Clearwater.
Gamboa batted just .214/.304/.279 over 497 plate appearances this year in High-A ball, but the Phillies like his glove and wanted to protect him from selection in next month’s Rule 5 Draft.
