Joey Ortiz (neck) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Wisconsin on Thursday.
Ortiz has been on the IL with neck stiffness since July 3rd, but it sounds like he could be activated as soon as he’s eligible on Friday or soon after. He should take over regular third base duties from Andruw Monasterio when he’s activated.

Joey Ortiz (neck) is not in the starting lineup Sunday against the Cubs.
Ortiz is dealing with neck stiffness, and the issue caused him to be scratched from Saturday’s lineup and will cause at least one more missed game. The Brewers are calling Ortiz’s absence precautionary, so consider the 25-year-old day-to-day for now. Andruw Monasterio will handle third base while Ortiz recovers.

Joey Ortiz was scratched from Saturday’s lineup due to neck stiffness.
Ortiz has been dealing with an ongoing neck issue the past couple days and it seems like the Brewers don’t want to take any chances at the moment. The 25-year-old was in Milwaukee’s original lineup for Saturday’s game against the Cubs, but he’s going to get an extra day of rest instead. It’ll be Andruw Monasterio taking over at third base and Brice Turang bumped up to the leadoff spot in his absence.

Tyler Black is once again riding the pine for Friday night’s matchup against the Cubs in Milwaukee.
It’s the fourth consecutive game that the 23-year-old has found himself on the Brewers’ bench for, and with a southpaw on tap for Saturday, you can bet that his streak will extend to five straight games. Unfortunately, it’s looking like the Brewers aren’t going to give him a shot at everyday at-bats. Andruw Monasterio will draw a start at third base and will bat ninth for the Brewers on Friday night against Jameson Taillon and the Cubs.

Willy Adames is hitting fourth and playing shortstop Sunday against the White Sox.
Both Adames and William Contreras were originally scheduled to get their first day off of the season. Nope. The new lineup has Adames in his usual spot at shortstop, and Contreras is hitting second and catching. Kinda weird, but it keeps the streak going for both. Andruw Monasterio and Oliver Dunn were scratched from the lineup, but this does not appear to be injury related.

Willy Adames is not in the starting lineup Sunday against the White Sox.
For the first time all season, Adames will get day off. This is also true for William Contreras, as the catcher/backstop is getting a chance to enjoy a game from the bench for the first time. In Adames’ place, the Brewers will give a start at shortstop to Joey Ortiz, while Andruw Monastario is the starting designated hitter with Gary Sanchez behind the plate.

Brewers recalled INF Andruw Monasterio from Triple-A Nashville.
Monasterio is up from the Sounds after Joey Wiemer was placed on the 10-day injured list with discomfort in his knee. Monasterio will just be a bench option while he’s with the club.
  • MIL Shortstop #14
Brewers optioned INF Andruw Monasterio to Triple-A Nashville.
Monasterio didn’t make an appearance over the weekend while Jake Bauers was on bereavement leave. He’ll try to earn his next opportunity at the major league level.

Brewers recalled INF Andrew Monasterio from Triple-A Nashville.
With Jake Bauers landing on the bereavement list on Friday, the Brewers needed some extra depth on their bench for the weekend, so Monasterio will rejoin the Brewers after being optioned out to Triple-A Nashville on Sunday. Monasterio is 0-for-7 with a pair of runs scored in his limited action with the Brewers this season.
  • MIL Shortstop #14
Brewers optioned INF Andrew Monasterio to Triple-A Nashville.
Monasterio will head back to Triple-A with Joey Wiemer being recalled from Nashville in a corresponding transaction. The 26-year-old will likely be an up-and-down option for the Brewers throughout 2024.
