Orioles assigned LHP Andrew Suárez and catcher Maverick Handley to minor league camp.
Suárez signed a minor league contract with the Orioles this January after accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Memphis in 2023. The southpaw struggled mightily in his final season with the Cardinals, posting a 7.16 ERA, 1.74 WHIP, and 175/15 K/BB ratio over 27 2/3 innings.

Orioles signed LHP Andrew Suárez to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
The 31-year-old southpaw elected free agency back in October rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Memphis from the Cardinals. He struggled mightily during his time at the big league level in 2023 — registering a horrifying 7.16 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and a 17/15 K/BB ratio over 27 2/3 innings in his 13 appearances. He’ll need an awfully strong showing during Grapefruit League action to crack the O’s Opening Day bullpen.

Andrew Suárez has elected free agency.
Suárez refused an outright minor league assignment after being removed from the Cardinals’ 40-man roster. The 31-year-old southpaw compiled a disastrous 7.16 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 17/15 K/BB ratio across 27 2/3 innings (13 appearances) this season in the majors. He’ll likely have to settle for a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training this offseason.

Cardinals recalled LHP Andrew Suárez from Triple-A Memphis.
The 30-year-old southpaw will help to bring in reinforcements to a pitching staff that saw plenty of departures leading up to the trade deadline. He has posted a 13.50 ERA and 2.25 WHIP across four innings with the big league club this season.
  • STL Relief Pitcher #31
Cardinals optioned LHP Andrew Suárez to Triple-A Memphis.
The 30-year-old southpaw became the first Cardinals’ relief pitcher in team history to throw 45 or more pitches on consecutive days, so he’ll be swapped out with a fresh arm from Triple-A in Matthew Liberatore. Expect Suárez to get another opportunity with the big league club before the summer is through.
  • STL Relief Pitcher #31
Andrew Suárez allowed three runs over two innings on Thursday in relief against the Cubs.
Suárez became the first Cardinals reliever in franchise history to throw 45 pitches in relief on consecutive days. We’re going to assume that he won’t be available to pitch on Friday evening.

The 30-year-old hurler returned stateside after spending two seasons overseas and has spent the entire season thus far at Triple-A Memphis where he has registered a 4.08 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and a 69/25 K/BB ratio over 64 innings. He’ll add some length to the Cardinals’ bullpen.

Suárez spent the last two seasons overseas between the LG Twins of the Korea Baseball Organization and Yakult Swallows of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball. The 30-year-old southpaw made 56 appearances (31 starts) for the Giants between 2018 and 2020, finishing with a serviceable 4.66 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 160/65 K/BB ratio across 202 2/3 innings.
