Andrew Abbott allowed just one hit and struck out eight over seven scoreless innings in the Reds’ 6-2 defeat of the Cubs on Friday.
Abbott gave up only three hard-hit balls. He walked one and faced two over the minimum over the seven innings. The win moved him to remarkable 5-0 with a 1.51 ERA. Incredibly, he’s doing this even with his velocity down about one mph and a league-high flyball rate (just two of his outs today came on the ground) while also pitching half of the time in an awful ballpark for pitchers. It’s hard to imagine him keeping this up, but he’s always been a rather difficult pitcher to project. His next start will come at home against the Brewers.

Andrew Abbott allowed one run with two strikeouts over 5 2/3 innings in a win over the Cubs on Saturday.
Abbott surrendered a solo homer to Justin Turner in the third inning. That would be the only run the Cubs could bring in to score against the 25-year-old left-hander. He scattered five other hits and two walks while striking out two batters. Abbott ends the day with an excellent 1.77 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and a 45/17 K/BB ratio across 40 2/3 innings. He’ll look to keep it going in a rematch against the Cubs in Chicago on Friday.

Andrew Abbott tossed five scoreless inning and got the win in the Reds’ 3-1 victory over the Guardians on Sunday.
Abbott gave up four hits, walked three and struck out five. The 25-year-old left-hander has allowed one earned run over his last four starts combined spanning 20 innings. Abbott’s 3.93 xFIP suggests he’s not nearly as good as his 1.80 ERA, though his 30 percent strikeout percentage is significantly higher than his career 23 percent strikeout percentage. Abbott is lined up to face the Cubs at home next weekend.

Andrew Abbott was terrific in a no-decision against the White Sox on Tuesday night, piling up seven strikeouts over six innings of one-run baseball.
The 25-year-old southpaw scattered just four hits on the evening and did not walk a batter. The only run that the White Sox were able to muster against him came on an RBI single by Edgar Quero in the fourth inning. Abbott generated 13 swings and misses on 96 pitches on the night — eight of those on his fastball — while posting a CSW of 29 percent. He’ll bring a pristine 2.10 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and a 38/12 K/BB ratio (30 innings) into Sunday’s tilt against the Guardians.

Andrew Abbott tossed five scoreless innings with eight strikeouts in a no-decision against the Braves on Tuesday.
Abbott was outstanding on Tuesday, shutting out the Braves over five innings. He scattered four hits while striking out eight batters on 11 whiffs while issuing zero walks for the first time this season. That’s now nine scoreless innings over his last two starts. Abbott’s Reds were shut down on the other side by Chris Sale and he had to settle for a no-decision. The 25-year-old right-hander will take a 2.25 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and a 31/12 K/BB ratio across 24 innings into a start against the Astros in Houston on Sunday.

Andrew Abbott allowed one run over four innings before a rain delay halted his outing against the Cardinals on Thursday.
Abbott definitely would have started the fifth if not for the delay, but there’s no guarantee he would have finished it; he’d already walked four and thrown 74 pitches through four innings. His ERA sits at 3.32, but he’s not recommended in a road start in Atlanta next week.

Andrew Abbott allowed five hits and four earned runs with five walks and four strikeouts across four innings in a no-decision against the Rockies on Friday.
Coors Field is not a fun place to pitch, especially for someone like Abbott who thrives on the vertical movement of his fastball. That fastball lost four inches of induced vertical break in this start compared to its season average and he seemed hesitant to throw it in the zone unless he was way behind in the count. He wound up just nibbling and struggled to grab strikes with any of his secondary pitches. This start was certainly a step in the wrong direction after two great starts. He’ll look to get back on track in his next scheduled start against the Cardinals at home.

Andrew Abbott struck out 11 and allowing only one run and two hits over six innings in the Reds’ 8-3 win over the Orioles on Friday.
Stellar. It’s Abbott’s fourth career 10-strikeout game, and he was one off his high of 12 from a start against the Padres last July. He allowed only one hard-hit ball tonight, that being a lineout from Adley Rutschman. The homer he surrendered to Cedric Mullins was 93.3 mph off the bat and traveled 345 feet down the right field line. Abbott has excelled in both starts since returning from shoulder surgery, even though his velocity is down 1-1.5 mph from last year. Give much of the credit to his changeup, which he’s using more frequently and more effectively than ever before. In spite of his success, he still seems like a weak play next week at Coors Field.

Andrew Abbott yielded one run over five innings on Saturday in a win over the Pirates.
Abbott struck out five and issued a pair of walks in his season debut after missing the early portion of the regular season making his way back from last year’s shoulder injury. He carried a shutout into the fifth inning before coughing up a solo blast to Alexander Canario, which represented the lone tally against him. He’ll square off against the Orioles on Friday in his next outing.

Reds activated LHP Andrew Abbott from the 15-day injured list.
Abbott, 25, will be making the start Saturday against the Pirates on Saturday after missing the beginning of the 2025 season recovering from his shoulder operation in 2024. The southpaw offers some fantasy upside, and is worth a look as a streamer against a not-so-great Pittsburgh lineup.
