He’s sitting against Cardinals’ lefty Jaime Garcia, with Alfredo Marte getting the start in left field. Kubel is a career .238/.308/.382 hitter against southpaws and will likely see plenty of time off against them this season.

Marte was optioned to Triple-A Reno earlier this month, but the Diamondbacks need to cover for the injured Cody Ross. Marte is highly unlikely to hold fantasy value.

With Cody Ross (calf) sidelined, Marte will serve as Diamondbacks’ fourth outfielder to start the season. He won an Opening Day roster spot over Tony Campana.

Kubel has been out of the lineup since Tuesday with a left quad issue, but his condition has improved over the past couple of days. It sounds like he’ll avoid a trip to the DL, but could still be questionable for the remainder of the weekend. Alfredo Marte is drawing the start in left field on Friday.

Marte made the Diamondbacks’ Opening Day roster as a fourth outfielder, but batted just .186/.271/.256 during his 22 game stint in the majors. Didi Gregarious has been reinstated from the 7-day DL in a corresponding move.

The exact reason for his absence isn’t clear, but he indicated that he’s a little banged up right now. The Diamondbacks will go with Gerardo Parra, A.J. Pollock and Alfredo Marte from right to left in their outfield on Wednesday.

Marte had one hit in four at-bats during his brief time with the big club. He’s being replaced on the roster by reliever Edgar Ibarra.

Marte has two hits in six at-bats in his brief time with the big club this season. The Angels will make a corresponding move prior to Wednesday’s game.
