Reds signed Scott Barlow to a one-year, $2.5 million contract.
The move was reported earlier this week and is now official. Barlow will join Taylor Rogers as reinforcements at the back end of the Reds’ bullpen and could be an option for saves if Alexis Diaz struggles with his command again in 2025. Julian Aguiar was placed on the 60-day IL to make room on the 40-man roster.

USA TODAY’s Bob Nightengale reports the Reds are engaged in talks to sign Carlos Estévez.
No word on how close a potential deal might be to crossing the finish line, but Cincinnati has been linked to Estévez throughout the offseason. The 32-year-old stopper, who has 57 saves combined over the past two seasons for the Phillies and Angels, is one of the better relief arms left on the open market after the Dodgers scooped up both Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates in recent days. MassLive.com’s Chris Cotillo adds that a source told him the Red Sox are among teams that have checked in on Estévez, but aren’t seriously pursuing him. He’s also been linked to the Cubs, Blue Jays, Phillies and Yankees earlier this offseason. Stay tuned.

Reds and RHP Alexis Díaz avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $4.5 million contract.
Thanks to the almighty save, Díaz, who was eligible for arbitration for the first time, will earn $1.05 million more this year than Bryan Abreu, a significantly better reliever who is one year ahead of him in service time. Díaz had a 3.99 ERA and 28 saves in 32 chances last season. He’s set to remain the Reds’ closer this season, but his declining velocity and strikeout rate don’t seem to bode well.

Alexis Díaz pitched a scoreless ninth inning to lock down a 6-5 win over the Braves.
Díaz made it interesting, as he always does, allowing a two-out single that brought Michael Harris II up as the go-ahead run. However, he was able to get a strikeout to secure his 28th save. Díaz now has 28 saves but also a 4.14 ERA that has not been kind to our ratios.

Alexis Diaz tossed a scoreless ninth inning and picked up the save against the Braves on Monday.
Diaz’ save was his 27th of the season. He tossed a perfect ninth inning to nail down a 1-0 victory for Cincinnati. While the 27 saves he has are certainly valuable, his 4.30 ERA this year leaves much to be desired.

Alexis Díaz struck out two in a clean inning of work against the Mets on Sunday to earn the save.
Díaz has done well to hold the closer role in Cincinnati’s beleaguered bullpen despite a forgettable season. He’d blown two of his last three save opportunities before this one and is still hard to trust with his 4.38 ERA.

Alexis Díaz didn’t allow a run while picking up a save against the Astros on Thursday.
Díaz didn’t allow a hit and picked up a strikeout. The right-hander is now up to 25 saves on the year, and his ERA is lowered to a still-disappointing 4.56 on the campaign.

Alexis Díaz picked up a win after pitching a hitless 11th inning Sunday against the Brewers.
Díaz had an easy outing today after taking a blown save Thursday and a loss in extra innings on Friday. This makes four appearances in five days for him, so he’ll likely be down Monday. Tony Santillan or Emilio Pagán might pick up a save then.

Alexis Díaz took his fifth loss after allowing the automatic runner to score in the 10th in the first game of Friday’s doubleheader against the Brewers.
Díaz pitched for a third day in a row despite giving up three runs and taking a blown save last night. On the plus side, that blown save took only15 pitches, and he had thrown just seven pitches the night before. He’ll definitely be unavailable in the nightcap, so Tony Santillan or Fernando Cruz might get a save chance then. He’ll also presumably need Saturday off.

Alexis Díaz allowed two runs on one hit in 1/3 of an inning on Sunday, suffering a blown save in a loss to the Pirates.
The 27-year-old got the first out of the inning, but then he hit Bryan De La Cruz before allowing a game-ending home run to Yasmani Grandal. Díaz has only blown three saves on the season, but he now has a 4.37 ERA and has walked and hit 32 batters in 45 1/3 innings this season.
