Hinshaw

The 29-year-old southpaw has posted a 3.72 ERA and 18/10 K/BB ratio in 19 1/3 innings this season at the Triple-A level. He’ll operate in a relief role in the bigs.

Hinshaw, 29, compiled a 4.80 ERA and 58/39 K/BB ratio over 45 innings this season between Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Fresno in the Giants’ organization. He hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since 2009 and unless his command improves, that trend will continue in 2012.

The 29-year-old southpaw was designated for assignment by the Padres last week after posting a 4.50 ERA and 36/20 K/BB ratio over 28 innings. Those numbers essentially fall in line with the rest of his major league career. Hinshaw, a former 15th-round pick of the Giants, won’t have more success in Wrigley than he did in PETCO. He’ll function as a low-leverage reliever.

Hinshaw was designated for assignment last week. He’s put up a 6.04 ERA and 1.69 WHIP over 33 big league appearances this season.

He was cleared to make room for Blake Parker’s return from the disabled list. Hinshaw gave up five runs on four hits (including three home runs) without recording an out in Monday’s blowout loss to the Brewers. He has a 135.00 ERA with the Cubs. Not often you can say that about a pitcher.

He was cleared to make room for Tom Layne on the active roster. Hinshaw has a 4.50 ERA and 36/20 K/BB ratio over 28 innings with the Padres this season. There’s a chance he could slip through waivers unclaimed.

The deal includes a spring training invite. Hinshaw, 30, had a 6.04 ERA and 36/21 K/BB ratio over 28 1/3 innings this season between the Padres and Cubs. The southpaw has allowed 15 homers in just 74 innings in the big leagues. We’re not optimistic about him winning a roster spot.

Hinshaw has posted an 8.44 ERA and issued five walks in just 5 1/3 innings this season. That’s absolutely unacceptable for a reliever. He’ll try to figure some things out at Fresno.

Hinshaw hasn’t had a taste of the big leagues since April, when he posted an 8.44 ERA and issues five walks over 5 1/3 innings out of the Giants’ bullpen. The lefty will work in middle relief.

Usually we don’t see players demoted in September because MLB rosters can hold up to 40 players, but Hinshaw posted a dreadful 12.00 ERA in nine appearances with the Giants. He doesn’t belong on a team in the Wild Card hunt.
