Orioles purchased the contract of first baseman Alejandro Freire from Triple-A Ottawa.
Freire, who turns 31 this month, will be making his major league debut after hitting .299/.376/.512 for Ottawa. He may only stay until Rafael Palmeiro returns, assuming that Palmeiro returns.

Alejandro Freire made his major league debut by starting at DH for the Orioles tonight, going hitless in four at-bats.
He’s not likely to be in the majors for long and thus won’t have any value in AL-only leagues, but it’d still be nice to see the 31-year-old rookie get a hit before returning to the minors.
  • BAL First Baseman
Alejandro Freire went 1-for-4 with a double off Devil Rays reliever Jesus Colome tonight for the first hit in his major league career.
Freire is 31 years old and will probably be sent back to the minors in a matter of days, so at least he has something to tell the grandkids about.
  • BAL First Baseman
The Orioles released 1B Alejandro Freire.
Signed to a minor league contract after hitting .246/.319/.338 with the Orioles last season, Freire had been playing at Triple-A Ottawa.
  • BAL First Baseman
Alejandro Freire hit his first major league home run tonight against the Red Sox.
It was a routine fly ball hit just to the left of the Pesky Pole at Fenway Park, and it probably surprised Freire as much as anyone that it was a home run. The 31-year-old Freire apparently will continue to play against lefties. That doesn’t give him fantasy value.
  • BAL First Baseman
Alejandro Freire hit an RBI double and drew a walk in three plate appearances against the Blue Jays tonight.
Because Toronto threw nothing but lefties, Freire has started three straight games at DH with Rafael Palmeiro out. He’s been pinch-hit for against right-handers in each of the games, so it still doesn’t look like he’ll have much fantasy value.
  • BAL First Baseman
Orioles sent first baseman Alejandro Freire outright to Triple-A Ottawa.
Freire, 31, hit .246/.319/.338 in 65 AB while playing against lefties during the latter part of the season. He’ll return to Triple-A next year.
  • BAL First Baseman
Orioles recalled first baseman Alejandro Freire from Double-A Bowie.
Freire went 5-for-20 with one RBI in his first stint with the Orioles. He’ll get some starts against left-handers, but he shouldn’t have fantasy value.
  • BAL First Baseman
Orioles re-signed first baseman Alejandro Freire to a minor league contract.
Freire, 31, hit .246/.319/.338 in 65 AB for the Orioles last season. Japan still might be a possibility for him. He shouldn’t figure into Baltimore’s plans.
  • BAL First Baseman
Orioles optioned first baseman Alejandro Freire to Double-A Bowie.
To Bowie? He was in Triple-A before he was recalled. Freire went 5-for-20 with one RBI for the Orioles.
