Albert Abreu has signed with the Seibu Lions of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball.
Abreu will take his talents overseas in an effort to rebuild his long-term value. The 28-year-old righty made a career-high 45 appearances this past season for the Yankees, finishing with a 4.73 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 61/35 K/BB ratio across 59 innings of work.

Albert Abreu is set to sign with the Seibu Lions, according to FanSided’s Robert Murray.
It shouldn’t be coming to this already for Abreu, unless he simply prefers the idea of pitching in Japan. But this is a 28-year-old with a high-90s fastball and a decent enough 4.15 ERA in 97 2/3 innings the last two seasons... some major league team should be willing to offer him guaranteed money. He still has more upside than what we’ve seen thus far.

    Yankees non-tendered RHP Albert Abreu.
Abreu showed some promise when healthy in 2022, but he had a 4.73 ERA before finishing up on the IL with a hamstring strain last season. Throw in that he’s out of options, and it’s easy to see why the Yankees made this call. Still, his arm might net him a major league deal elsewhere.
  • NYY Relief Pitcher #84
Yankees placed RHP Albert Abreu on the 15-day injured list with a right hamstring strain.
Nick Ramirez will take his spot in the Yankees’ bullpen. Abreu, who threw two innings on Thursday against the Tigers on Thursday, holds a 4.73 ERA and 61/35 K/BB ratio over 59 innings this season. It’s unclear how much time he’ll need to miss.

Albert Abreu stayed in after a visit from the trainer while giving up six runs in two-thirds of an inning Thursday against the Orioles.
It’s unclear what prompted the visit. Abreu had already given up three runs at that point, and he subsequently gave up a three-run homer to Gunnar Henderson. His ERA jumped from 3.11 to 4.46 tonight.
  • INT Relief Pitcher #84
Yankees activated RHP Albert Abreu from the 15-day injured list.
Abreu has been out since late August due to right elbow inflammation and returns to the Yankees’ bullpen in a middle relief role heading into the postseason. He’s squarely on New York’s roster bubble for their upcoming playoff run.

Albert Abreu (elbow) allowed one run and recorded two outs on Monday in a minor league rehab appearance for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Abreu struck out one batter and gave up a pair of hits before being lifted after 16 pitches (nine strikes) in his latest rehab outing. The 26-year-old righty has been out since late August due to right elbow inflammation, but should return to the Yankees’ bullpen in a middle relief role before the regular season concludes.

Albert Abreu (elbow) began a minor league rehab assignment on Sunday with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Abreu didn’t get into Sunday’s contest for the RailRiders, but should make an appearance soon. The 26-year-old righty has been out since late August due to right elbow inflammation. He’ll likely return to a middle relief role for the Yankees later this month.

  • INT Relief Pitcher #84
Albert Abreu (elbow) has resumed a throwing program.
There isn’t a definitive timetable for Abreu to rejoin the Yankees’ bullpen, but he’s trending towards a potential late-season return after landing on the injured list last month due to right elbow inflammation.
