Phillies selected the contract of RHP Alan Rangel from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
Rangel signed a minor league pact with the Phillies back in mid-July and has been officially added to the club’s 40-man roster. The 27-year-old righty has yet to reach the majors, but that could wind up changing next season.

Phillies signed RHP Alan Rangel to a minor league contract.
Rangel finds his way to Philadelphia just a few weeks after being released by the Angels. The 26-year-old right-hander, who was a notable pitching prospect a few years ago with the Braves, represents an interesting addition for the division-rival Phillies. He’s yet to reach the majors, but has posted a sparkling 2.61 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 25/5 K/BB ratio across 20 2/3 innings (four starts) this season at the Double-A level.

Angels re-assigned RHPs Travis MacGregor, Joel Hurtado, Jose Marte, Carmen Minacci, Alan Rangel and Hayden Sieg, LHPs Nick Jones, Cs Juan Flores and Zach Humphreys, INF Evan White and OFs Nelson Rada and Alberto Rios to minor league camp.
Nothing too surprising among this first large batch of cuts for the Angels. MacGregor, 26, was in camp as a non-roster invitee after posting a respectable 3.82 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and an 84/31 K/BB ratio over 77 2/3 innings between Double-A Altoona and Triple-A Indianapolis for the Pirates in 2023. It wouldn’t be surprising to see him debut in Los Angeles during the upcoming season.

Angels signed RHP Alan Rangel to a minor league contract.
Rangel had spent his entire career in the Braves organization. He was briefly called up to the majors at the end of the 2022 season, though he never got to pitch. The 26-year-old went 4-16 with a 4.61 ERA and a 140/50 K/BB in 127 innings while spending most of last year in Double-A. He’ll be competing for a spot in the Angels’ Triple-A rotation.

Braves re-signed RHP Alan Rangel to a minor league contract.
Rangel was non-tendered on Friday before quickly agreeing to a new deal with the Braves. The 25-year-old compiled a 5.81 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 139/50 K/BB ratio across 114 2/3 innings (26 starts) this past season for Double-A Mississippi.

Braves optioned RHP Alan Rangel to Triple-A Gwinnett.
Rangel was called up over the weekend from Double-A Mississippi to give the Braves some extra relief depth in the wake of Spencer Strider’s oblique injury, but didn’t end up getting into a game. The 25-year-old right-hander should get a chance to make his big-league debut sometime next year.

Braves recalled RHP Alan Rangel from Double-A Mississippi.
Rangel was added to the Braves’ 40-man roster last offseason and will be making his major-league debut when he gets into a game. The 25-year-old righty has compiled an underwhelming 5.81 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 139/50 K/BB ratio across 114 2/3 innings (26 starts) this season for Double-A Mississippi. He’ll attempt to fill the void lefty by Spencer Strider’s absence due to an oblique injury.

Braves optioned RHPs Alan Rangel and Freddy Tarnok to Triple-A Gwinnett.
That will bring the Braves down to a total of 54 players remaining in big league camp. Neither right-hander was expected to make the big league roster, so there are no surprises among these moves. Rangel was added to the 40-man roster in November after registering a 3.87 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 136/26 K/BB ratio across 104 2/3 innings between High-A and Double-A during the 2021 season.
