Jeff McNeil (wrist) mad the Mets’ NLCS roster for the series against the Dodgers.
McNeil missed the last month with a fractured left wrist, but he was able to get some at-bats in the Arizona Fall League over the weekend, and now the 32-year-old will get a chance to help the Mets make a World Series. With McNeil healthy, Adam Ottavino is off the roster to make the room.

MLB suspended RHP Edwin Díaz for 10 games for violating the prohibitions on foreign substances.
The suspension became automatic the moment Díaz was tossed last night, though he can appeal it. Díaz said after the game that all he had on his hand was rosin, sweat and dirt. The Mets will go back to getting by with Adam Ottavino and Reed Garrett in the ninth.

Edwin Díaz (shoulder) will begin a minor league rehab assignment on Thursday.
Díaz threw a bullpen session on Tuesday without any issues and the Mets are hoping to have one of their primary closing options back on June 11, when first eligible to return. The electrifying 30-year-old righty hit the injured list back in late May with a right shoulder impingement. He’s struggled this season, but remains arguably the best option for New York manager Carlos Mendoza moving forward over Adam Ottavino, Jake Diekman and Reed Garrett.

Jake Diekman recorded a two-out save on Monday against the Nationals.
Diekman was brought on in the ninth inning with the Mets ahead by a pair of runs at the time after Adam Ottavino got into a bases-loaded, one-out jam. The 37-year-old southpaw was somehow able to escape with the lead intact. He got a sacrifice fly from pinch-hitter Joey Meneses to kick things off before striking out Drew Millas to end the contest and preserve the victory. It’s not a situation fantasy managers will be extracting much value from moving forward, but Diekman figures to be in the mix with Ottavino and Reed Garrett moving forward for saves in New York.

Mets placed RHP Edwin Díaz on the 15-day IL with a right shoulder impingement.
Well, this is definitely not something the Mets were planning a few hours ago, since Díaz’s replacement on the roster, Josh Walker, was just sent down earlier today. It’s nice to have this explanation for Díaz’s struggles, even if those struggles still seemed pretty fluky. Reed Garrett is probably the best bet in the Mets pen for now, though Adam Ottavino could get save chances as well.

Adam Ottavino allowed one run in the ninth inning on Tuesday in a blown save against the Dodgers.
Ottavino got the call over Edwin Díaz to protect a one-run lead in the final frame and wound up surrendering three straight hits, including a game-tying hit single to Chris Taylor. The veteran righty managed to wriggle out of the jam without any further damage, but the Mets wound up falling in extra innings. Not great. It’s unclear where manager Carlos Mendoza will go from here, but we’re guessing Díaz will probably wind up getting the next save chance.

Mets manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters Saturday that Edwin Díaz is “one of the options” (to close) moving forward.
He’s our closer,” Mendoza added. “Even if he’s going through it right now.” He also elaborated that they’ll “piece it together” moving forward in the ninth inning. It’s a bit of a confusing message and isn’t exactly the vote of confidence fantasy managers are hoping to hear. It certainly sounds like Díaz will get some save opportunities in the near future, but Reed Garrett, Adam Ottavino and Jorge López might also still be in the mix. What a mess.

Adam Ottavino allowed one earned run and earned the save for the Mets on Tuesday night to collect his first save of the season with Edwin Díaz unavailable.
Ottavino took over closer duties for the Mets Tuesday after Díaz worked back-to-back days Sunday and Monday. Things got dicey after a Lars Nootbaar homer and some traffic on the bases, but Ottavino struck out Paul Goldschmidt and Alec Burleson to end the game. He is unlikely to get many more save opportunities with Díaz and Reed Garrett ahead of him in the Mets’ bullpen pecking order.

Jorge López allowed one run in the ninth inning on Monday against the Braves to collect his first save of the season.
López was summoned to protect a two-run lead in the ninth inning with elite closer Edwin Díaz and setup specialists Adam Ottavino and Brooks Raley unavailable after pitching three of the last four days. He got off to a rocky start by surrendering a leadoff double to Matt Olson, and a one-out RBI single to Michael Harris II, but managed to retire Orlando Arcia and Travis d’Arnaud to preserve the victory.

Mets re-signed RHP Adam Ottavino to a one-year, $4.5 million contract.
The deal, which was agreed upon earlier in the week, is now official. The 38-year-old hurler posted a stellar 2.62 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and a 141/45 K/BB ratio across 84 2/3 innings over the past two seasons with the Mets. He’ll reprise his setup role in front of closer Edwin Díaz.
