Edward Cabrera left Thursday’s spring training start after developing a blister.
The right-hander threw 10 of his first 12 pitches for balls before leaving in the first inning. Even if Cabrera were to heal quickly from his blister, the Marlins could still decide to start him on the IL so that he can take his time building up his pitch count. He could then also get a few starts against minor league hitters after a poor spring training. That could open up a spot in the rotation for Adam Mazur or Xzavion Curry.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher #60
Marlins optioned RHP Adam Mazur, RHP Luarbart Arias and INF Max Acosta to Triple-A Jacksonville and optioned LHP Dax Fulton and INF Jared Serna to Double-A Pensacola.
Mazur is the most notable name of the cuts, as he was acquired in the deal that shipped Tanner Scott to the Padres back in July. The 23-year-old has a chance to make starts for Miami before the end of 2025.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher #36
Marlins acquired RHP Adam Mazur, LHP Robby Snelling, 3B Graham Pauley and INF Jay Beshears from the Padres for LHP Tanner Scott and RHP Bryan Hoeing.
That’s a nice haul for a pair of relievers. Mazur struggled mightily in eight starts for the Padres this season, amassing a 7.49 ERA and a 22/21 K/BB in 33 2/3 innings, but he’s just 23 and, at least in the minors, he’s displayed impressive command of a four-pitch arsenal. The Marlins will probably want to put him into their rotation right away.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #36
Padres optioned RHP Adam Mazur to Triple-A El Paso.
Mazur heads back to the minors after allowing one run over 2 2/3 innings on Friday in an abbreviated opener appearance against the Orioles. The 23-year-old righty has struggled in his first taste of the majors this season and isn’t a recommended fantasy option moving forward. There’s some intrigue for dynasty purposes, but he’s not quite ready to contribute yet in shallow mixed leagues.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #36
Adam Mazur functioned as an opener in a no-decision against the Orioles on Friday, giving up one run on two hits over 2 2/3 innings of work.
The rookie right-hander threw just 39 pitches (21 strikes) in the outing, facing only 11 batters in total. The lone tally against him came on a solo homer off the bat of Jordan Westburg in the second inning. Mazur also issued a pair of walks while striking out one batter on the evening. He got a total of four whiffs on 39 pitches, registering a CSW of 23 percent. It’s unclear if he’ll stick around long enough to make another start in the Padres’ rotation or if he’ll be ticketed back to Triple-A El Paso instead.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #36
Padres recalled RHP Adam Mazur from Triple-A El Paso.
As anticipated, the 23-year-old hurler will return to start on Friday night against the Orioles. It’s a tough matchup from a fantasy perspective, and Mazur’s 7.84 ERA, 1.84 WHIP and 21/19 K/BB ratio over 31 innings in seven starts with the Padres this season doesn’t inspire any confidence. He should be avoided for streaming purposes.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #36
Adam Mazur will start on Friday against the Orioles.
It’ll be Michael King and Randy Vásquez taking the ball over the weekend at Camden Yards against the Orioles. It’ll most likely be a spot start for Mazur, who has compiled an underwhelming 7.84 ERA, 1.84 WHIP and 21/19 K/BB ratio across 31 innings (seven starts) this season in the big leagues. The 23-year-old was a second-round pick from the 2022 MLB Draft and has a bright future ahead, but he’s not exactly a strong fantasy option at this stage of his development.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #36
Padres optioned RHP Adam Mazur to Triple-A El Paso.
Mazur struggled yet again in Tuesday’s loss to the Mariners, giving up five runs over 4 2/3 innings in a losing effort. Through seven starts with the Padres this season he has gone just 1-3 with a cringe-inducing 7.84 ERA, 1.84 WHIP and a 21/19 K/BB ratio over 31 frames. It remains to be seen if he’ll get another opportunity to pitch out of the Padres’ rotation following the All-Star break.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #36
Adam Mazur was tagged for five runs in 4 2/3 innings Tuesday in a loss to the Mariners.
Mazur figures to be sent down Wednesday, and it could be a while before he’s seen again. The 23-year-old rookie is 1-3 with a 7.84 ERA and through seven starts.
  • SD Starting Pitcher #36
Adam Mazur allowed four runs on seven hits in four innings of work on Wednesday against the Rangers. He struck out four without walking a batter.
Good news, this was Mazur’s first start without a walk in the major leagues. This was also the first start Mazur used his nasty slider as his primary pitch. As for the bad news, the Rangers hunted that fastball and did plenty of damage off it. While Mazur may keep getting opportunities in the Padres injury-riddled rotation, he looks a bit over-matched by major league hitters so far.
