Haseley

Haseley went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week following Chicago’s decision to ink veteran infielder Paul DeJong to a one-year pact. The 27-year-old should be able to latch on somewhere else this offseason as a reserve outfielder.

Haseley has been removed from Chicago’s 40-man roster to make room for newly-signed veteran infielder Paul DeJong. The 27-year-old former top-10 overall pick from the 2017 MLB Draft got into 28 games this past season for the White Sox. He’ll likely be able to latch on somewhere else this offseason as a bench outfielder.

The 27-year-old outfielder hasn’t done much in his time with the big league club this season — slashing a dreadful .222/.282/.278 with zero homers, two RBI and an 8/3 K/BB ratio in 39 plate appearances. He’ll continue to function as extra depth at the Triple-A level.

Haseley has filled a reserve outfield role this season for the White Sox, batting .222 (8-for-36) with zero homers, two RBI and one stolen base across 26 games.

With Eloy Jiménez returning to the White Sox roster, Haseley drew the short straw and will head to Triple-A Charlotte. The 27-year-old hit .222/.282/.278 with one steal across 39 plate appearances with Chicago.

“We knew he could do it all along,” said a White Sox team that was giving Haseley just his second start since he was called up two weeks ago and seventh since picking him up from the Phillies prior to last year. Haseley is 6-for-11 with two walks in limited action. There’s not really much in the way of upside here, but he might be a better option in right field than Oscar Colás at the moment.

The 27-year-old hit .229/.339/.438 with two homers across 56 plate appearances at Triple-A Charlotte. He will serve as a bench option for the White Sox while on the active roster.

The White Sox cleared a 40-man roster spot in the process. Haseley, 26, appeared in 14 games with the big club this season while going 5-for-21 (.238) with two RBI.

Haseley has played sparingly this season for the White Sox as a reserve outfielder. He was brought up last week to provide some extra position player depth, but will head back to the minors with Yoán Moncada returning from the injured list.

Haseley has zero extra-base hits in 11 games (23 plate appearances) with the White Sox this season. He’ll be a backup outfielder down the stretch.
