Rockies INF prospect Adael Amador went 2-for-5 with three runs scored and a stolen base on Wednesday for Triple-A Albuquerque.
The 21-year-old made a brief MLB debut in 2024 but was largely inconsistent in Triple-A last year. So far this season, he has gone 5-for-17 with one stolen base. He could enter the conversation at second base if Tyler Freeman or Kyle Farmer begins to struggle. Although, we should also keep an eye on Ryan Ritter, who has been playing shortstop for Albuquerque and has gone 7-for-16 with two home runs to start the season.
  • COL Catcher #3
Rockies optioned C Drew Romo and INF Adael Amador to Triple-A Albuquerque and reassigned INF Kyle Karros to minor league camp.
Romo was competing for the backup catching gig to Jacob Stallings, but that will now be a battle between Austin Nola and Hunter Goodman. Amador is one of the top hitting prospects in the Colorado system, and he should see time with the Rockies before 2025 comes to a close.
  • FA Shortstop #7
    Rockies non-tendered 2B Brendan Rodgers.
This seems like good news for Rodgers, who might well turn into something more on a major league team that, well, is trying for something more than being a placeholder and a punchline. Rodgers, 28, has posted OPS+s of 102, 97 and 94 in his three relatively full major league seasons, and he’s a solid enough defender at second base. The upside that made him the No. 3 overall pick in the 2015 draft seems long gone now, but he’ll probably be a pretty useful regular for some team. As for the Rockies, Adael Amador is likely the future at second base. He’s probably not ready yet, though.
  • COL Shortstop #1
Rockies activated 2B Adael Amador from the 10-day injured list; optioned him to Double-A Hartford.
Amador got into 10 contests for the Rockies last month before hitting the injured list with a right oblique strain. The 21-year-old second baseman is one of the top prospects in the fantasy landscape, but he’s yet to play above Double-A in the minors. His time is coming in Colorado, but it’s probably not going to be until next year.
  • COL Shortstop #1
Rockies placed INF Adael Amador on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain.
The 21-year-old infielder was pulled from Thursday’s game due to what had been termed a “mild oblique strain”, but he’ll need more than just a couple of days to recover from this one. Brendan Rodgers was activated from the injured list in a corresponding move on Friday.
  • COL Shortstop #1
Adael Amador was removed from Thursday’s game against the Dodgers due to a “mild” oblique strain.
Rockies manager Bud Black characterized it as a mild strain that’s similar to one he was dealing with earlier this year at Double-A Hartford. We’ll see. Amador went 1-for-3 with a single prior to being lifted from Thursday’s contest against the Dodgers in the eighth inning and could wind up requiring a trip to the injured list if he’s unable to play through the injury. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.
  • COL Shortstop #1
Adael Amador went 0-for-3 on Sunday, leaving him 3-for-26 as a major leaguer.
Amador has hit the ball hard on occasion, but he’s sporting a .115/.115/.115 line through seven games. It doesn’t sound like Brendan Rodgers will be sidelined for long, so Amador will probably head back to the minors soon.
  • COL Shortstop #1
Adael Amador is at second base and batting ninth for Tuesday’s game against the Twins.
Amador will make his third consecutive start at the keystone since making the jump last weekend directly to the majors from Double-A Hartford. The 21-year-old top prospect has gone 1-for-6 at the dish with one stolen base and three strikeouts so far. He’s probably not ready at this stage of his development to make a significant fantasy impact, but he’s still probably worthy of a speculative roster spot in deeper mixed leagues on the chance that he catches lightning in a bottle.
  • COL Shortstop #79
Adael Amador had a single in three at-bats in his major league debut Sunday against the Cardinals.
Amador’s single, a 74-mph bloop to right field, came on the first pitch he ever saw as a major leaguer. He later struck out and grounded out. He’s slated to be the Rockies’ starting second baseman for at least the next couple of weeks while Brendan Rodgers is out.
  • COL Shortstop #79
Rockies recalled INF Adael Amador from Double-A Hartford.
As expected, Amador is up from Double-A to take the roster spot of Brendan Rodgers after Rodgers was placed on the injured list. He’ll hit eighth and play second base in his MLB debut Sunday. Amador is the top hitting prospect in the Colorado system, and while he’s registered just a .664 OPS thus far in Double-A, he’s been much better with the bat as of late with six homers in his last 10 games. There’s some serious risk with a 21-year-old coming up from Double-A, but there’s potential for reward as well.
