Athletics sent INF Abraham Toro outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.
The Athletics designated Toro for assignment earlier this week, but with nobody claiming him, he’ll go to Triple-A and wait for another opportunity at the big league level.

Athletics designated INF Abraham Toro for assignment.
Toro got off to a hot start with the A’s in 2024, but struggled for the overwhelming majority of the year to the tune of a .240 average and .643 OPS over 96 games. He does offer defensive versatility, so there’s a a decent chance he’s claimed for a team in need of bench help for the final month-plus.
  • OAK Shortstop #2
Athletics optioned INF Darell Hernaiz to Triple-A Las Vegas.
The move makes room for Jacob Wilson, who is returning Tuesday. Hernaiz had been playing over Abraham Toro at third base, but the A’s weren’t willing to cut Toro just yet. Max Schuemann figures to get much of the time at third with Wilson playing shortstop.

Abraham Toro is getting his first start in eight days Monday against the Rays.
Darell Hernaiz has overtaken Toro as Oakland’s primary third baseman, even though he hasn’t hit at all. If Jacob Wilson returns next week as hoped, the A’s will probably turn to Max Schuemann at third base, leaving them with a decision on whether to option out Hernaiz or DFA Toro.
  • OAK Third Baseman #31
Abraham Toro went 0-for-4 on Tuesday, leaving him 7-for-41 with two RBI since he came off the injured list last month.
Toro had a nice run in May, but he’s otherwise resembled the same quad-A player he’s been for most of his career. The A’s will likely turn him into a bench guy or give up on him completely once Jacob Wilson returns.
  • OAK Third Baseman #31
Athletics activated INF Abraham Toro off the 10-day injured list.
Toro, 27, is back after missing a little under a month with his Grade 1 hamstring strain. He takes the place of Jacob Wilson, as Wilson was placed on the injured list with a hamstring strain of his own. Toro should see consistent playing time for Oakland, but there are probably better fantasy options available.
  • OAK Third Baseman #31
Abraham Toro (hamstring) went 1-for-3 on Monday in a minor league rehab game in the Rookie-level Arizona Complex League.
Toro has been out since late June recovering from a right hamstring strain and figures to be ready to return to Oakland’s infield rotation right after the All-Star break, barring any setbacks.
  • OAK Third Baseman #31
Abraham Toro has been diagnosed with a Grade 1 right hamstring strain.
It’s the best-case scenario outcome for Toro, but he’s still going to be sidelined until after next month’s All-Star break. The 27-year-old infielder hit the injured list earlier this weekend after suffering the ailment during Friday’s game against the Twins.
  • OAK Third Baseman #31
Athletics placed INF Abraham Toro on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain.
It’s a tough break for Toro, who has done a nice job this season for Oakland, batting .260/.303/.386 with six homers and three steals in 295 plate appearances over 73 games. The 27-year-old infielder is going to wind up missing at least a few weeks, even if it’s only a low-grade hamstring strain.

MLB.com’s Martín Gallegos reports the Athletics are calling up prospect Armando Alvarez from Triple-A Las Vegas.
Alvarez gets his first opportunity in the majors after toiling away in the minors since 2016. The 29-year-old has hit .311/.401/.528 with eight homers and four steals through 47 games this season in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. He’ll take the roster spot of Abraham Toro, who is headed to the injured list prior to Saturday’s game against the Twins with a hamstring strain.
