Manager Ken Macha hinted that Aaron Harang may not make his scheduled start Saturday.
John Halama likely would be the favorite to replace Harang for one start, though Rich Harden and Justin Duchscherer of Triple-A Sacramento may receive consideration if the A’s decide to make a more permanent switch.

Aaron Harang is in the A’s bullpen for now, but how long he remains there is undetermined.
Harang could go back to Triple-A Sacramento to work on consistency, but he was 7-2 with a 2.38 ERA at Sacramento when he was called up, only to end up pitching just once in his first 14 days with the A’s, which he thinks threw him off. Harang believes consistent work will help him be a consistent pitcher. Harang can still be a worthy bottom-of-the-rotation pitcher, but has no value unless he’s starting regularly.

Aaron Harang (strained back) will throw a bullpen session today.
It’s yet to be determined when Harang will pitch again.

Harang is currently on the DL with a right elbow strain, and should make one more minor league rehab start before returning for the Reds. He could be back in their rotation by early next week.

Aaron Harang (sprained right elbow ligament) complained only of routine back stiffness after a 10-minute bullpen session yesterday.
Harang said his elbow was fine. The Cincinnati right-hander will throw again in the bullpen Wednesday, and will likely have to have at least one more rehab start before rejoining the rotation next weekend.

Aaron Harang (elbow) will throw for pitching coach Don Gullett today.
Harang is eligible to return Thursday, but the Reds may want to see him throw in a minor league game first.

Aaron Harang (elbow sprain) will come off the DL and start Saturday against the Pirates.
We thought that might be the case when the Reds demoted Jung Bong after activating Juan Castro. When Harang returns, Felipe Lopez is expected to be demoted.
  • PHI Starting Pitcher #34
Aaron Harang picked up his eighth win after allowing three runs in seven innings today against the Cubs.
Mark Prior matched Harang, but the Reds scored off Will Ohman in the top of the eighth and then added four insurance runs in the ninth. That Harang’s strikeout rate is down of late is a concern, but he’s still pitching effectively. He has a 3.90 ERA in 23 starts.

Aaron Harang recorded his 12th win of the season on Friday and yielding just two runs -- one earned -- over six innings against the Braves.
Harang gave up five hits and three walks while striking out two, so it wasn’t his most dominant outing. The 12th win is a new career-high for Harang, who won 11 games with the Reds last season and 10 in 2004. He’ll get the Cardinals next time out.
