Aaron Civale pitched decently in Sunday’s start against the Royals, serving up a pair of solo home runs over hits three innings of work.
The 29-year-old hurler struck out one batter on the afternoon and didn’t issue a free pass. He was ambushed out of the gate, as Jonathan India crushed a leadoff homer to start the home half of the first inning. Jac Caglianone then crushed a long solo homer to lead off the third inning. The two long balls were the only baserunners that Civale allowed. He got three swings and misses on 48 pitches on the day, registering a CSW of 29 percent. While he doesn’t get by on velocity, it’s worth noting that Civale’s fastball averaged just 89.8 mph during this one and he was down nearly two ticks across the board from where he sat during the 2024 season.

Brewers manager Pat Murphy told reporters Wednesday that DL Hall has been shut down from throwing for a few weeks due to a lat injury.
Murphy didn’t divulge the severity of the issue, but it seems likely to impact Hall’s availability for Opening Day. The 26-year-old southpaw was expected to be in the mix for one of the final spots in Milwaukee’s season-opening rotation along with Aaron Ashby, Brandon Woodruff and Aaron Civale. He was limited to just 13 appearances (seven starts) last year due to injury, but looked impressive down the home stretch. Hall offers enough strikeout potential to be a fantasy-relevant contributor, if he stays healthy.

Brewers and RHP Aaron Civale avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $8 million contract.
Civale had been projected by MLBTradeRumors.com to earn exactly $8 million in the arbitration, so both sides should feel like they good a good deal on this one. The 29-year-old hurler did a nice job in 14 starts with the Brewers following a mid-season trade from the Rays, posting a 3.53 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and a 65/25 K/BB ratio across 74 innings. An afterthought in most early drafts, Civale could be an interesting target outside of the top 350 picks overall.

Aaron Civale threw six shutout innings in a win over the Pirates, allowing three hits and striking out five.
It was a nice rebound for Civale after a poor start against the Diamondbacks his last time out. The right-hander now has a 2.53 ERA over his last 42.2 innings (eight starts) and figures to head into the playoffs as the Brewers’ number three starter. On the season, the 29-year-old finishes with a 4.36 ERA and 149:52 K:BB ratio in 161 innings. He’s arbitration-eligible next season, so he should be back in the Brewers’ rotation but remains a low-upside fantasy option given his lack of strikeouts.

Aaron Civale allowed three runs in 4 1/3 innings and took the loss against the Diamondbacks on Saturday.
Civale gave up three hits, walked three and struck out two. Since joining the Brewers, he’s allowed three runs or less in 11 of 13 starts. In that time Civale has five wins, a 3.84 ERA and 60 strikeouts in 68 innings. Not great, but pretty solid numbers. The 29-year-old right-hander is set to face the Mets at home next weekend.

Aaron Civale held the Phillies to one run over five innings to get a win Monday.
Civale did allow seven hits, but the only run that came across came on solo Brandon Marsh homer in the fifth. The 29-year-old issued one walk and struck out six in a solid outing versus a tough Philadelphia lineup. Civale has not been great nor anything close with Milwaukee, but he’s done just enough to keep his spot in the rotation. He’ll take a 4.48 ERA into a start Saturday versus the Diamondbacks.

Aaron Civale surrendered two runs over 5 1/3 innings Tuesday in a win over the Giants.
Civale is 4-2 with a 3.84 ERA in 11 starts for the Brewers, compared to 2-6 with a 5.07 ERA in 17 starts for the Rays to begin the season. His FIP, on the other hand, is virtually unchanged; he’s at 4.69 for his new team and 4.70 for the year, and his SIERA is actually worse in Milwaukee (4.40) than it was in Tampa Bay (4.16). While there still might be something else to his turnaround, we wouldn’t recommend using him in mixed leagues with back-to-back starts against the Diamondbacks coming up.

Aaron Civale allowed three runs over five innings in a no-decision against the Cardinals on Tuesday.
Civale was able to strike out seven, and outside of a two-run first inning and a solo homered allowed to Paul Goldschmidt a couple innings later, it was a decent outing for the 29-year-old. Just not decent enough for a win as the Cardinals topped the Brew Crew in 12 innings. Civale will try and lower his 4.62 ERA against the Giants on Tuesday.

Aaron Civale struck out seven over seven scoreless innings against the Giants on Thursday while picking up a win.
Civale only allowed two hits with two walks. It’s the second time in three starts that the 29-year-old has blanked his opponent, with a mediocre outing against the Athletics sandwiched between. Civale has been a mediocre option for the majority of 2024, with a 4.59 ERA bringing some evidence to that opinion. He’s scheduled to face the Cardinals on Tuesday

Aaron Civale didn’t get a decision after allowing three runs in four innings Friday against the Athletics.
Civale allowed a solo homer in the first and gave up another two runs in the fourth. The right-hander walked four hitters and struck out three in a start that at best would be described as mediocre. Civale was strong in his last two outings, but that didn’t really carry over against Oakland in this one. He’ll get the Giants on Thursday if there’s no change to the rotation order.
