Bears interviewed ex-49ers coach Mike Singletary for their vacant defensive coordinator job.
The Bears will be hiring their third defensive coordinator in four years following Chuck Pagano’s retirement. Since 2013, Singletary has been in the NFL for just one season and that was as an advisor to the Rams in 2016. His last hands-on NFL coaching job was with the Vikings as their linebackers coach. In the meantime, Singletary had to resign as the Trinity Christian Academy (Texas) head coach after going 1-21 across two seasons. That’s a high school, folks. This would be an uninspiring hiring, even for the Ryan Pace-led Bears.

  • The Rams interviewed Vikings assistant Mike Singletary for their defensive coordinator vacancy this week.
Singletary landed the title of “special assistant to the head coach” and linebackers coach with ex-Bears teammate Leslie Frazier after flaming out as the 49ers’ head coach. He’s overseen Chad Greenway, Erin Henderson, and Jasper Brinkley’s development over the past two seasons. The Rams are in the market for a defensive coordinator after agreeing mutually to part ways with Rob Ryan.
  • ESPN’s Ed Werder reports the Rams are “discussing a role” to hire ex-49ers coach Mike Singletary.
Singletary and coach Jeff Fisher were teammates back in their playing days. Singletary went 18-22 as the 49ers’ coach from 2008-2010 and was an assistant for the Vikings in 2011. He’s been out of the league ever since but has interviewed for head-coach jobs. The Hall of Famer is chomping to get back at it.
  • Rams hired ex-49ers coach Mike Singletary as a defensive advisor.
Singletary has been away from the game since he was let go as a Vikings assistant following the 2013 season when coach Leslie Frazier was fired. Prior to that, he was the 49ers’ head coach from 2008-2010. Singletary’s role with the Rams remains unclear, but he’ll likely work with the linebackers and be an ear for new MLB Alec Ogletree, who is making the transition from the weak side.
  • ESPN’s Josina Anderson reports the Giants are interviewing ex-49ers coach Mike Singletary for their linebackers coach position on Thursday.
Singletary most recently served as the assistant head coach/linebackers with the Vikings in 2013. He has been out of the league the last two seasons. Singletary and coach Ben McAdoo worked together with the 49ers in 2005.
