ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Broncos selected former coach Mike Shanahan for the organization’s Ring of Fame.
The annual ceremony was rescheduled for 2021 due to COVID-19. Shanahan has attempted to latch on elsewhere since being fired by the Redskins in 2013 but appears ready to keep away for good. He remains one of only seven head coaches in NFL history to achieve 175 wins and two Super Bowl titles.

Sources tell NBC4 that Mike Shanahan interviewed for the Raiders head coaching vacancy.
Shanahan has also garnered interest from the Bills and 49ers. The Oakland interview with Mark Davis and other team officials is a bit of a surprise as Shanny’s first go-around with the organization was a short-lived disaster. He clashed with Al Davis and was fired just four games into his second season as coach (1989). Time has obviously healed wounds. The Raiders have also been linked to Tony Sparano, Jack Del Rio, Pat Shurmur, Eric Mangini, Todd Bowles, Pep Hamilton, Scott Linehan and Darrell Bevell.

Colorado Springs Gazette’s Woody Paige reports Broncos GM John Elway met with Mike Shanahan to discuss Denver’s head coaching job last year.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport confirmed the report. According to RapSheet, CEO Joe Ellis blocked the move, telling Elway he would have to conduct a full search if he decided to move on from Vance Joseph. With Joseph again on the hot seat, it is possible Elway again attempts to hire Shanahan the Older rather than taking a shot on an up-and-comer.

NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport reports Redskins coaches “all think” they’re getting fired.
The purge is coming, but owner Daniel Snyder has decided to wait out troublemaking head coach Mike Shanahan. Shanny’s name should be one of the first we learn on Black Monday.

“Multiple people familiar with the situation” tell the Washington Post that Redskins coach Mike Shanahan will be fired.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter said as much on Sunday Countdown, suggesting the Shanahan move will take place sooner rather than later and is just “a matter of when,” not if. The Post’s report indicates Shanahan could be fired as soon as tonight, following Sunday’s clash with the Giants. One source with “ties to the organization” expects the announcement to come on Black Monday.

The Houston Chronicle’s John McClain reports the Texans won’t consider Mike Shanahan for their head-coaching vacancy if/when he’s fired by the Redskins.
Shanahan has gone full George Costanza as he attempts to force his way out of Washington, but it apparently won’t be to Houston. McClain has his finger on the pulse of the Texans like no one else in the media. According to McClain, candidates the Texans will consider are Lovie Smith, Stanford’s David Shaw, Penn State’s Bill O’Brien and Chargers OC Ken Whisenhunt. Shanahan’s sour act — and perpetual losing — could mean his days as an NFL head man are through.

The Washington Post reports owner Dan Snyder is exploring firing Mike Shanahan “with cause,” which would take the Redskins off the hook for what’s left on Shanahan’s contract.
“Several people with knowledge” of the situation tell the Post it’s “likely” Shanahan will be dismissed, whether it’s “with cause” or without. Shanahan’s contract runs through 2014 and would pay him $7 million in the entirely-unlikely event he were retained. Snyder is considering attempting to take himself off the hook for that money; coaches’ contracts in the NFL are guaranteed. If Snyder indeed pursues firing Shanahan “with cause,” the Redskins could contend an ESPN report that surfaced Sunday was leaked by Shanahan. The report stated that Shanahan cleaned out his office and nearly walked out on the Redskins last January, only to change his mind after Robert Griffin III’s knee injury. Shanahan and Snyder are not on good terms, and haven’t been for longer than a year.

“Several people familiar with the situation” continued to tell the Washington Post this week that they expect Redskins coach Mike Shanahan to be fired at season’s end.
Shanahan told reporters Friday no meeting has been scheduled with owner Dan Snyder, yet, but he’s still likely to be among Black Monday’s coaching casualties. There is one scenario in which Shanahan might stay, per the Post, which would occur if he and Snyder “refuse to budge” on financial considerations. Shanahan is owed $7 million in 2014, and it is technically guaranteed.

ESPN’s Dan Graziano reports a “disillusioned” Mike Shanahan cleaned out his office before last January’s Wild Card playoff game between the Redskins and Seahawks due to frustration with Dan Snyder and Robert Griffin III’s relationship.
Shanahan reportedly “grew tired” of the way Snyder “empowered” Griffin, creating an environment Shanny didn’t believe was “conducive to winning” and a team concept. Shanahan “did not blame” RG3, rather he did Snyder, and later changed his mind when Griffin suffered his ACL and LCL tears against Seattle, believing “leaving at that point was no longer an option.” The Redskins issued a statement Sunday describing Graziano’s story as “ridiculous.” Some close to Shanahan believe the longtime NFL coach may be willing to walk away this offseason. Snyder could also fire him.

    Redskins fired coach Mike Shanahan.
Everything started to go really downhill for Shanahan after he left a hobbled Robert Griffin III in last year’s Wild Card loss to the Seahawks for too long. RG3 ended up tearing his ACL, and a frosty relationship between the duo ensued. As everyone knows, the franchise quarterback is always going to win out over the coach. So Shanahan’s four seasons in Washington end with a 24-40 record, one playoff berth and far too much off-field drama. It’s bad news for the fantasy prospects of both Alfred Morris and Pierre Garcon, as few coaches get more production out of their running game or “X” receiver. Bengals coordinators Jay Gruden/Mike Zimmer as well as Lovie Smith are already being linked to the Redskins, although owner Dan Snyder will be looking to make a bigger splash than that. There is some speculation that Snyder will target Baylor head coach Art Briles to reunite with college pupil Griffin.
