Nugent presumably suffered the injury against the Dolphins, but he kicked a field goal with just 25 seconds left in the game and attempted the ensuing onside kick. Nugent could find his way to injured reserve even if this is a short-term injury. The Raiders are working out multiple kickers on Tuesday.

He’ll miss at least eight games on IR. The Raiders signed UDFA Matt McCrane to replace Nugent.

The former Florida Gator was hoping to open the year as Oakland’s starting kicker, but a groin injury threw a wrench in that plan. Veteran Mike Nugent will handle place-kicking duties for the Raiders this season.

It’s unclear who his replacement will be. Nugent made it just four games as Stephen Gostkowski’s fill-in, shanking 3-of-8 field goal attempts while making extra points feel like an adventure. It’s not surprising the Pats are on to the next one. 2019 is Nugent’s age-37 campaign.

Nugent will replace Stephen Gostkowski (hip, IR). Nugent hasn’t kicked in 2019, but went 6-for-6 on field goals and 4-for-5 on extra points with the Raiders in 2018.

Coach Eric Mangini hinted that the team may audition potential replacements for Nugent, although that seems unlikely. This is why you don’t draft kickers in the second round.

The kicker franchise tag is estimated at $2.6 million to $2.7 million. Nugent, 30, nailed 33 of his 38 field goal attempts in 2011, good for a percentage of 86.8. He also had a stunning 36 touchbacks. Strong-legged and finally polished in terms of accuracy, Nugent has recovered perfectly from a torn ACL, MCL, and meniscus suffered in his kicking leg in November of 2010.

Nugent, 30, will be fully guaranteed the salary for the 2012 season, and the Bengals are likely interested in a long-term deal. An early-career bust as a former second-round pick by Herm Edwards’ Jets, Nugent has gotten his career on track recently. He converted 33 of his 38 field goal attempts last season. Nugent can’t be expected to match that production from a fantasy perspective in 2012, but he’s certainly got a very strong leg.
