Wisconsin:
The Wisconsin Badgers opened up the season with a strong start going 8-0 in November, however, they enter tonight’s match up having dropped their last two games. The Badgers fell 67-64 to Michigan at home last Tuesday, and 88-74 against Marquette on Saturday. Wisconsin looks to pick up its first conference win of the season tonight.
Graduate transfer guard John Tonje currently leads the Badgers and the Big Ten in scoring with 215 points this season. The sixth-year player spent his first 4 seasons at Colorado State before transferring to Missouri last season. He only played in 8 games for the Mizzou Tigers before sustaining a season-ending foot injury.
Illinois:
Illinois is also seeking its first conference win of the season after losing 70-66, in overtime to Northwestern on Friday. Freshman guard Kasparas Jakucionis finished with a team-high 20 points, while sophomore center Tomislav Ivisic added 15 points and 12 rebounds in the loss. Freshman forward Will Riley scored 12 points.
The Fighting Illini, led by Brad Underwood who is in his 8th season as head coach, won the Big Ten tournament last year and earned a No. 3 seed in the NCAA tournament, before losing to UConn in the Elite Eight. Illinois is still looking to fill in the gaps this season after losing 4 of their 5 starters from last year’s team. They have returned just 2.2% of their scoring from last season, the fewest in the conference.
