Bucs WR Maurice Stovall made a big impression in his preaseason debut, with three catches, including a touchdown.
Coach Jon Gruden singled him out for his tenacious blocking. After a rough start to training camp, Stovall probably won’t have a big role to his rookie season.
  • FA Tight End #83
While Bucs WR Maurice Stovall has worked on some tight end techniques, the team have no immediate plans to play him there.
It looks like Jon Gruden is looking for position flexibility with Stovall. The rookie probably isn’t any higher than fifth on the wideout depth chart. He’s struggled with drops in camp.
  • FA Tight End #83
The Bucs are planning to try rookie Maurice Stovall at tight end.
Stovall would likely need to fill out a little but has the natural blocking skills to make the switch. Is it possible Tampa is so enthralled with David Boston they’re moving Stovall to clear the path?
  • FA Tight End #83
Lions re-signed WR Maurice Stovall to a one-year contract.
Primarily a special teamer in his first season with the Lions, Stovall caught just one pass for eight yards in 15 games last year. If he makes the roster again this time around, it will be with the same role in mind.
  • FA Tight End #83
    Jaguars signed WR/TE Maurice Stovall.
Stovall has been a wide receiver throughout his career, but the Jaguars announced him as a tight end. He is also replacing TE Stephen Spach on the roster. Regardless, Stovall will focus on special teams if active Sunday.
  • FA Tight End #83
2006 third-round wide receiver Maurice Stovall has reportedly “drawn raves” at Buccaneers offseason practice.
“Maurice Stovall isn’t here to sign autographs,” coach Jon Gruden says. “He’s here to play.” Stovall is getting a chance to pass Michael Clayton on the depth chart and took the bulk of the first-team snaps at flanker on Tuesday.
  • FA Quarterback #3
Backup Tampa Bay QB Luke Mccown was 9-of-13 for 66 yards with 37 rushing yards.
McCown played well, but fumbles by WR Maurice Stovall and rookie RB Kenneth Darby stalled his drives. Bruce Gradkowski was 7-of-11 for 113 yards and a touchdown, but McCown is still the likely backup to Jeff Garcia.
  • ATL Coaching Staff
WR Ike Hilliard caught four passes for 49 yards in Week 1 against the Seahawks.
Starting over WR Maurice Stovall, Hilliard was targeted six times and also returned punts. Stovall’s only action came on special teams.
  • FA Tight End #83
Maurice Stovall is listed as the Buccaneers’ starting flanker on their most updated depth chart.
The depth chart is so up to date that even Jeremiah Trotter, whose signing the team announced Tuesday, is on it. The Bucs will use a committee at flanker to start the season, but Stovall is the favorite to see the most snaps.
  • FA Tight End #83
Coach Jon Gruden confirmed Friday that the Bucs will begin the season with a rotation at the starting flanker position.
“We’ll use them all,” Gruden quipped. “Who starts doesn’t mean – I don’t know if they all have incentives in their contracts for starts, but if they do, we’ll weigh that too into the equation. But they’re all going to play.”
