The ‘Skins are still trying to figure out how to recover from Kory Lichtensteiger’s season-ending knee injury. Hurt is a raw project that isn’t likely to be effective, but at least he allows Will Montgomery to go back to his natural center spot. The good news for Washington’s line is left tackle Trent Williams (ankle) is starting.

Hurt will almost certainly be sidelined for the rest of OTAs and mandatory minicamp in two weeks, but he should be back in plenty of time for training camp. The 25-year-old appeared in 13 games last season, starting one.

A raw seventh-round pick out of Florida, Hurt will take LG Kory Lichtensteiger’s roster spot after he goes on I.R. with a torn ACL and MCL. Hurt will be a backup going forward. He’s not a candidate to start at this point.

Polumbus has not even been cleared to practice since sustaining his concussion in the Week 15 win at Cleveland. Maurice Hurt, who handled himself well in a Week 16 spot-start, will likely get the nod again for Sunday night’s showdown with the Cowboys.

It’s a surprise after Polumbus practiced on Friday and was expected to play. He must not have gained final clearance from an independent neurologist. It’s a blow the continuity of a Redskins’ offensive line that has remained remarkably healthy this year, but Polumbus is just a backup-caliber talent anyway. Maurice Hurt will start and we wouldn’t expect much of a drop-off.

Hurt had his knee scoped in May. Hurt has been ultra-slow to recover from the procedure and will spend at least the first six weeks on the shelf.

Hurt has had conditioning problems in the past, and failed a drug test at the 2011 Combine. Under a new coaching staff, his roster spot is not secure.

Hurt has decent quickness when pulling, but poor blitz recognition, and often struggles on passing downs. Viewed as a below-average athlete, he also has serious character concerns after failing a drug test at the Combine. He’ll have a lot to prove before the ‘Skins deem him worthy of a roster spot.
