Ohio State senior OG Thayer Munford (right leg) was helped off the field during the first quarter of Saturday’s game against Tulsa.
Munford (6'6/321), one of the top draft-eligible offensive linemen in college football, was unable to put much weight on his right leg while being helped off the field. Matt Jones has replaced the senior at left guard, and would be given the task of filling that void if Munford is unable to return.

Ohio State received a verbal commitment from four-star 2018 OL Matt Jones.
Erasmus High School (New York) HC Danny Landberg said of his pupil’s decision, “There is an opportunity to play early. They are graduating three starters on the offensive line. He is going to go in as a guard-center. He will have the opportunity to play right away.” The 6-foot-4, 285-pounder ranks as Scout.com’s No. 145 overall prospect for the 2018 cycle, with outlet analyst Brian Dohn noting that he “shows quickness in firing off the ball, a strong initial punch and tremendous upper body strength.” Dohn was impressed with Jones’ improvements in his footwork as a junior.

Erasmus Hall HC Danny Landberg believes that Ohio State four-star 2018 verbal T commit Matt Jones will be a first-round pick down the road.
“If you watch his film, he’s so dominant. He went up against a kid with a Boston College offer and treated him like a child,” Landberg explained. “His athleticism is so spectacular. When a guy like [strength and conditioning coach] Mickey Marotti at Ohio State gets him in the weight room, it’s going to triple.” Ohio State scooped up the 6-foot-4, 285-pound Jones’ pledge in mid-June. Scout.com ranks him as the No. 145 overall prospect for the 2018 cycle.
