ESPN’s Brooke Pryor writes that undrafted RB Mataeo Durant could “make a run at [Benny] Snell’s job as RB2.”
The Steelers invested more in Durant than most undrafted free agents, Pryor adds. Durant got a $15,000 signing bonus, which is the largest of any Steelers UDFA RB in franchise history. Snell is in the final year of his rookie deal and definitely seems like someone who could be beat out at RB2. Durant will be someone to monitor in training camp and during the preseason.

Steelers signed Duke RB Mataeo Durant.
Durant (5'11/196) emerged over his final two years with the Blue Devils, rushing for 2,058 yards, grabbing another 363 yards through the air, and scoring 20 combined touchdowns. His 255-1,241-9 line as a senior was enough to earn first-team All-ACC honors. Not invited to the Combine, Durant made noise with a 4.43 forty at his Pro Day, logging a 35-inch vertical and 10-foot-7 broad jump. Durant puts that speed on display once he gets into the open field, but he routinely goes down at first contact and does not show much ability to make people miss. He can make an impact in the passing game, but it is tough to get excited about his Dynasty prospects.
