  • FA First Baseman #48
Anthony Rizzo is absent from the Yankees starting lineup for Wednesday night’s tilt against the Blue Jays.
The Yankees are simply being cautious and providing Rizzo with extra days off in order to keep his ailing back healthy and ready to go for the postseason. Marwin Gonzalez is starting in his place at first base on Wednesday and will bat sixth against Mitch White and the Blue Jays.

  • FA Third Baseman #3
Josh Donaldson is not in the Yankees starting lineup for Sunday’s matchup against the Red Sox.
There doesn’t appear to be any sort of injury at play here, just a regular day of rest for the 36-year-old third baseman. Marwin Gonzalez will start in his place at third base and bat eighth for the Bombers against right-hander Brayan Bello and the Red Sox on Sunday night in New York.

  • FA First Baseman #48
Anthony Rizzo is not in the Yankees starting lineup for Friday’s contest against the Red Sox.
It looks to be just a routine day off for the 33-year-old first baseman. Marwin Gonzalez will draw a start at first base in his place and will bat eighth for the Bombers against left-hander Rich Hill and the Red Sox.

  • INT Outfielder #14
Marwin Gonzalez exited Saturday’s game after being struck on the helmet by an errant throw from the catcher.
It has been a rough few days for the veteran. He left Friday’s contest due to an illness and then exited Saturday’s contest after catcher Victor Caratini inadvertently struck him in the helmet as he was throwing the ball back to Brewers starter, Brandon Woodruff. The extent of the injury is unclear but the team should provide an update soon.

  • INT Outfielder #14

  • INT Outfielder #14
Marwin Gonzalez was removed from Friday’s tilt against the Brewers due to illness.
Fortunately, it sounds like it was merely a precautionary measure and that Gonzalez should be fine to return in a day or two. He had been 1-for-3 with an RBI prior to departing. On the season, he’s slashing a putrid .193/.268/.329 with five homers and 15 RBI in 182 plate appearances.
