Manny Ramirez was released by the Sydney Blue Sox.
“Combined with the uncertainty of the season and the ongoing medical issue that is preventing Manny Ramirez from playing and training with the Sydney Blue Sox, we have decided to release Manny,” a statement from the club read. Ramirez had signed on with the club in October, and it was to be his first action since a 2014 stint with Triple-A Iowa in the Cubs’ organization. The long-time star is currently on the Hall of Fame ballot, but doesn’t appear to be likely to be elected in 2021.

Manny Ramirez has signed a contract with the Sydney Blue Sox of the Australian Baseball League.
Fun. Ramirez, now 48, was recently linked to signing with a Chinese Professional Baseball League Team this summer, but it never came to fruition. The last time the slugger played professionally was a 2014 stint with Triple-A Iowa in the Cubs’ organization. One of the best right-handed hitters of the generation, Ramirez has hit 555 homers in 2,302 career games with a slash of .312/.411/.585.

According to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman, a deal for Manny Ramirez in Taiwan “hasn’t materialized to this point.”
Manny told the Taiwan Times back in April that he was hoping to sign with a Chinese Professional Baseball League (CPBL) team for the 2020 season, and he apparently still has hope of working something out. Heyman suggests that the 47-year-old former MLB slugger might get a look in the second half.

Manny Ramirez told the Taiwan Times that he is hoping to sign with a Chinese Professional Baseball League team for the 2020 season.
Manny turns 48 years old next month and last appeared in a major league game way back in 2011, though he did suit up for the Kochi Fighting Dogs in Japan in 2017, and he had some success with the EDA Rhinos of the CPBL in 2013. “My goal for 2020, is to find a roster spot in the CPBL,” he said. “I have been itching to get back in the batter’s box and be able to compete again. I know if I was given the opportunity to come in an organization as a player-coach, it would do great things for the organization and the league. When I arrived in 2013, attendances nearly quadrupled overnight. That means, there is love for the game and the fans will come but the owners must bring what the fans want.”

Manny Ramirez’s hamstring has bothered him much of this season, but he has aggravated it each of the last two nights.
Ramirez tried to stretch a single into a double last night and had to come out of the game because ''it felt like a cramp.’' Manny hopes to serve as the DH in the final two games this weekend, but may skip the All-Star game if the pain persists.

When Manny Ramirez stroked a double in Wednesday’s game, he and David Ortiz became the first pair of teammates in MLB history to record at least 40 doubles and 40 home runs in the same season.
If you are wondering how the Rex Sox have stayed close to the Yankees in the pennant race this past month, the hitting exploits of Ortiz and Ramirez is a good place to start.

Manny Ramirez is expectd to play very little in this weekend’s series against Baltimore.
He is still being bothered by a tender hamstring and manager Red Sox Terry Francona wants his slugger in top shape for the playoffs. As a result, Gabe Kapler may get some playing time over the next three games.

Manny Ramirez left yesterday’s game after the fifth inning as a precaution to protect his tender hamstring muscles.
He felt a bit of a twinge in one of his hamstrings during his first at-bat, and the Red Sox rather than take any chances, decided to pull Ramirez out of the contest with the game well in hand. He should be fine for games this week although as soon as Boston clinches at least the AL wild card position we expect that they will rest Ramirez and some other regulars.
  • INT Outfield
Manny Ramirez could return to the Red Sox’ lineup this afternoon.
Ramirez’s knee is still not 100% after fouling a ball off it on Friday night, so Boston may also sit him for today’s contest and after an off-day bring him back on Tuesday.
  • INT Outfield
Manny Ramirez sat out both games of yesterday’s doubleheader with a sore throat.
There is no yet word if he will play today in the season finale against the Orioles. We wouldn’t bet on it.
