    Patriots released LB Harvey Langi.
Signed in May, Langi was an every-down player for the Jets in six 2020 starts before going on IR with a neck injury. The Patriots claimed Dolphins wide receiver Malcolm Perry on waivers, and with wideout N’Keal Harry going on IR, Patriots beat reporters believe a roster spot may suddenly appear for Langi before the season starts. The day after final cuts is a day of careful maneuvering.

  • FA Wide Receiver #19
Patriots claimed WR Malcolm Perry off waivers from the Dolphins.
Although he is only 5-foot-10, Perry has the kind of position versatility Patriots coach Bill Belichick is a fan of, and can line up all over the offensive formation. Primarily a slot man, he managed to force his way onto the field and catch nine balls for the Dolphins as a rookie last season.

  • FA Wide Receiver #19
Dolphins WR Malcolm Perry has played 40 percent of the team’s offensive snaps the past two weeks, drawing seven targets and a rushing attempt.
Slowly but surely, the flashy seventh round rookie is working his way into Miami’s offense with Preston Williams (foot) out. Running 25.5 pass routes per game, Perry is third in wide receiver targets over the past couple games, behind DeVante Parker and Jakeem Grant. Perry split time between quarterback and slot back in his first three seasons at Navy, rushing for 4,359 yards from under center. He makes for an interesting add in deeper formats.

  • FA Wide Receiver #19
Dolphins declare RB Malcolm Perry, S Clayton Fejedelem, OT Adam Pankey, LB Elandon Roberts, and DE Jason Strowbridge inactive for Week 2 against the Bills.
Lynn Bowden, recently acquired from the Raiders, will take Perry’s spot as the team’s gadget slot wideout in Week 2. DeVante Parker (hamstring, active) and Preston Williams are both available for Miami on the boundary.

  • FA Wide Receiver #19
Dolphins signed seventh-round WR Malcolm Perry to a four-year contract.
Perry split time between quarterback and slot back in his first three seasons at Navy, rushing for a whopping 4,359 yards from under center. Perry has natural instincts as a ball carrier, but he will have to cover the ball (seven fumbles in 2019) better in the big leagues. Perry lacks straight-line speed (4.63 40) and agility (4.31 20-yard shuttle) but, as noted by The Athletic’s Dane Brugler, has brilliant quickness with the shifty feet to change course in a flash. Announced as a wide receiver upon being drafted, the Dolphins plan to move Perry all over the formation ... if he makes the team. Perry will almost certainly have to marinate on the practice squad before getting called up.

  • FA Wide Receiver #19
Dolphins selected Navy WR Malcolm Perry with the No. 246 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
Perry (5'9/186) split time between quarterback and slot back in his first three seasons at Navy, rushing for 4,359 yards from under center. He oddly has natural instincts as a ball carrier, though he’ll have to cover the ball (seven fumbles in 2019) far more cautiously at the next level. He lacks any straight-line speed (4.63 40) and agility (4.31 20-yard shuttle) but, as noted by The Athletic’s Dane Brugler, has brilliant quickness with the shifty feet to change course in a flash. Announced as a wide receiver upon being drafted, the Dolphins likely have plans in place to manufacture his touches to leverage his vision from behind the line of scrimmage.
