Bet the Chargers! With more injuries to the Browns than ever, McCown is set up for failure again this weekend.

Holcomb is still a longshot to play. It should be a long day for the Browns, who are more injured than ever.

We don’t expect it yet. But if Jeff Garcia was pulled, it would likely be McCown, not Kelly Holcomb, that would be the starting quarterback.

“There is just a sliver of doubt about which quarterback will start,” according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Cleveland coach Terry Robeskie is leaving the door open for Jeff Garcia or Kelly Holcomb, but both are big longshots this weekend.

We’re big fans of the La. Tech grad and think he may have a real future in the league. But opening against the Patriots with an injured offensive line is a recipe for disaster.

Jeff Garcia won’t be listed on this week’s injury report, but interim coach Terry Robiskie appears to be leaning towards starting McCown anyway. McCown was respectable against the Pats. The Browns want to see if he’s their QB of the future. This doesn’t help Antonio Bryant or William Green’s value.

Why not start him? McCown showed a lot of potential this season and the Browns have to be curious how good he can be. McCown was said to have the potential to be “the quarterback of the future.”

Kelly Holcomb should be ready to go. When Bill Parcells has talked about not wanting to inflict long-term “damage” by playing Drew Henson this season, he’s talking about situations like McCown. It was a rough introduction for a rough, but promising player.

Jeff Garcia could make a good 2-3 year tutor for the athletic McCown. He should be taken sometime between the third and fifth rounds, with the Broncos also reportedly interested.

McCown, if he progresses, will be groomed to be the QB-of-the-future in Cleveland in two seasons. He’s a solid late pick in rookie dynasty drafts.
