Raiders worked out free agents RB Lonyae Miller, RB Stafon Johnson, and CB Brian Williams.
The Raiders have Michael Bush and Taiwan Jones for depth. Working out Miller and Johnson signals concern that Darren McFadden (foot) might not be available for Week 9. We wouldn’t put too much stock in the workout unless one of the two is signed.
  • Running Back #36
Taiwan Jones (hamstring) is not expected to play in Monday’s preseason opener.
Jones has been sidelined for eight straight days now due to his “strain.” With Mike Goodson (neck) also sidelined, undrafted rookie Lonyae Miller has been acting as Darren McFadden’s backup. It doesn’t look like any clear handcuff is going to emerge for McFadden owners.

Rams worked out free agent RBs Lonyae Miller, Stafon Johnson, and Wynel Seldon on Tuesday.
The team is preparing for life without Steven Jackson (quad) this week. Miller and Johnson have spent the last two summers in Cowboys and Titans camp respectively. Also hurting at cornerback, the Rams worked out Fred Bennett, Rod Hood, Nathan Jones, and Robert McClain.
  • FA Running Back #45
Ravens signed RB Lonyae Miller and C Reggie Stephens.
Both Miller and Stephens finished the season on the Ravens’ practice squad. Ryan Mathews’ running mate at Fresno State, Miller managed just 2.9 YPC on 36 preseason carries in 2012. He’ll spend the offseason buried behind Ray Rice, Bernard Pierce, Anthony Allen, Damien Berry, and Bobby Rainey at tailback.

    Ravens waived RB Lonyae Miller.
Miller, 25, hasn’t earned an NFL carry through three seasons after breaking in as a UDFA out of Fresno State. He was Ryan Mathews’ college backup.

Coach Jason Garrett expects Tashard Choice (calf) and DeMarco Murray (hamstring) to resume practicing on Saturday.
Choice and Murray have missed two weeks, allowing Felix Jones to put a stranglehold on the feature back job. Choice was said to be in danger of losing his roster spot, though an underwhelming Lonyae Miller managed just 11 yards on nine carries Thursday night. It’s a safe bet that Choice will be available for a late-round pick regardless.
  • FA Running Back #45
Cowboys RB Lonyae Miller “just ran into piles and didn’t make anybody miss” too many times on Thursday night, according to ESPN’s Calvin Watkins.
Miller was a camp darling through the first couple weeks, but managed just 11 yards on nine carries last night. It’s not the kind of showing the 2010 undrafted free agent needs if he’s really going to push Tashard Choice off the roster. With Choice (calf) expected back Saturday, the battle will really get going.
  • FA Running Back #45
Cowboys promoted RB Lonyae Miller from their practice squad.
Miller has a somewhat intriguing skill set, but was planted on the bench at Fresno State behind Ryan Mathews last season. An undrafted rookie, Miller will be the Cowboys’ No. 3 tailback until Marion Barber gets healthy.
  • FA Running Back #45
Cowboys signed RB Lonyae Miller, OT Cliff Louis, TE Scott Chandler, WRs Jesse Holley and Manuel Johnson, TE Martin Rucker, OG Travis Bright, and CB Teddy Williams to their practice squad.
Miller, who lost his starting job to Ryan Mathews at Fresno State, might be the most intriguing talent here. He runs sub-4.5 at 5'11/215. Chandler, Holley, Johnson, and Bright were all on Dallas’ practice squad in 2009.

Owner Jerry Jones mentioned undrafted rookie RB Lonyae Miller as a player who has impressed during OTAs.
Ryan Mathews’ backfield mate at Fresno State isn’t going to be a fantasy factor with the Cowboys three-deep at the position. Miller isn’t without playmaking ability, but he’s probably ticketed for the practice squad as a rookie.
