Jets placed WR Logan Payne (dislocated wrist) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Payne suffered the injury in New York’s final preseason game. The fact Payne was kept on the active roster for so long indicates the Jets are less than thrilled with their receiver corps, but he was never going to be a factor this season. Payne has just three career catches, all of which came in 2008 with the Seahawks. Still only 26, he should compete for a roster spot next summer.
  • FA Wide Receiver #18
    Jets waived WR Logan Payne.
After picking up Stephen Hill and Chaz Schilens, Payne was going to enter offseason practices no higher than seventh on the depth chart. He hasn’t caught a pass in an NFL game in nearly five years.
  • FA Wide Receiver #18
    Ravens signed WR Logan Payne.
Payne missed all of 2011 with a dislocated left wrist. He hasn’t appeared in an NFL game since 2008 with Seattle. Payne is a poor bet to make the Ravens with Tandon Doss, Tommy Streeter and LaQuan Williams all ahead of him on the depth chart.
  • FA Wide Receiver #18
The Vikings are close to signing WR Logan Payne.
Payne was an offseason fantasy deep-sleeper as recently as 2008 when the Seahawks were scrambling for capable receivers. Instead, a knee injury derailed his season, and he was out of the league last year. He’ll be a camp body for the Vikes.
  • FA Wide Receiver #18
    Vikings signed WR Logan Payne.
The Vikings know Payne well because he played his college ball at the University of Minnesota, but he’s a long shot to make the team. Payne has a torn MCL and three career catches on his resume.
  • FA Wide Receiver #18
Seahawks signed WR Logan Payne off their practice squad.
Payne, an undrafted rookie from Minnesota, will likely be asked to cover kicks if he makes it to the game-day roster during the postseason.
  • SEA Wide Receiver
Seahawks WR Courtney Taylor is line for an expanded role if D.J. Hackett departs via free agency.
The team also likes the potential of Logan Payne, but Taylor would be given priority at Hackett’s split end spot. Ben Obomanu is higher on the depth chart, so it remains to be seen who will take advantage if opportunity presents itself this off-season.
  • FA Wide Receiver #18
Seahawks WR Logan Payne is participating in Seattle’s three-day April minicamp after missing nearly all of 2008 with a torn MCL.
Payne avoided surgery and probably could’ve returned late last season had the Seahawks been able to keep him on the roster, but they were desperate for receiver bodies at the time. Payne is now in a crunch at the position and no lock to make the club.
  • FA Wide Receiver #18
    Seahawks waived WR Logan Payne.
Payne was actually a starter for the Seahawks briefly last season before hurting his knee. Now that Seattle’s receivers are healthy (for now), Payne is expendable.
  • FA Wide Receiver #18
The Tacoma News Tribune estimates that Logan Payne is Seattle’s fourth receiver at the moment, behind Bobby Engram, Nate Burleson, and Courtney Taylor.
It appears Payne has passed Ben Obomanu and Jordan Kent. Payne has learned multiple positions on offense (slot, flanker), which could give him the edge over Taylor as the third receiver when roles are determined later on.
