This could just be hype coming from the Chiefs in hopes someone will bite. Consider any trade involving Johnson a longshot.

Blaylock will start and be on the field for most passing downs. But Johnson could also earn 8-10 carries. Johnson only has long-term fantasy value if Holmes is out for an extended period of time.

After Johnson criticized coach Dick Vermeil, the Chiefs tried to move him to the Cowboys, Bucs, and Dolphins among others. The Bucs are a good fit, with Keenan McCardell holding out and Charlie Garner injured. But it’s not a fair deal. This type of deal is very tough to pull off.

“You can’t do too much when you have an offensive coordinator who doesn’t trust you and a head coach who never wanted you in the first place,” Johnson said. Um, shut up Larry. That’s not helping your case.

It’s more likely that no other teams want him. “I haven’t talked to anybody,” coach Dick Vermeil said. “As far as I’m concerned he’s not tradable. In fact, Larry Johnson had his best football practice he’s had since he’s been here.” Johnson owners hoping for a trade shouldn’t hold their breath.

If they were going to deal, it would have happened in their bye week. Since they are looking for a first-rounder, it won’t.

Two steps forward ... Johnson was having a very positive training camp, but he needs to get back on the field. Still, unless this injury lingers a few more weeks, he’s still worth drafting.

When asked if he say a long-term future in Kansas City, LJ said, “I couldn’t care less. If I’m here today, tomorrow or I’m not here next year or the next two or three years, I don’t mind.” His play down the stretch could net the Chiefs a solid draft pick if they were so inclined.

For Johnson owners, this is a good sign that he may get some work. He’s not a terrible last minute flex option, if only because he may get goal-line work in a high scoring game.

It worked last week versus the Chargers. Johnson is a decent pickup for this week’s game at Oakland.
