Falcons promoted WR Kevin Cone from their practice squad.
Cone played wide receiver opposite Demaryius Thomas at Georgia Tech. Not related to former Mets pitcher David Cone, Kevin will probably focus on running downs kicks in special teams coverage if he’s active on game days.
  • FA Wide Receiver #40
Falcons WR Kevin Cone sustained a concussion during Saturday’s practice.
Cone is battling Drew Davis for the final wideout spot on the roster. He’ll need to get medically cleared quickly to stay in the race.
  • FA Wide Receiver #40
Kevin Cone and Drew Davis are considered the favorites for the Falcons’ final wideout spot.
With Eric Weems now on the Bears, there’s room on the roster. Both Cone and Davis spent last season on the practice squad, with the former earning a promotion to the active roster in Week 17. Whoever makes the squad will focus primarily on special teams.
  • ATL Linebacker #56
Falcons WLB Sean Weatherspoon (ankle) and WR Kevin Cone (groin) have been ruled out for Week 9 versus the Cowboys.
Akeem Dent will be elevated to the nickel package in Weatherspoon absence while Mike Peterson takes over in the base defense. Weatherspoon is one of the premier 4-3 coverage linebackers in the game, so this represents an upgrade for Jason Witten.

Free agent WR Kevin Cone will visit the Panthers on Friday.
Jacksonville is also interested. Cone has only one reception as an NFL player, but that is one more than Tavarres King and Marvin McNutt, the two players currently atop Carolina’s wide receiver depth chart. Even with the wideout situation in Carolina, Cone would be nothing more than a special teams contributor.
  • FA Wide Receiver #40
Dolphins signed WR Kevin Cone, formerly of the Falcons.
Cone (6-foot-2, 216) appeared in all 16 games for the Falcons last season, catching just one pass for 12 yards. It’s his only career grab through 29 games. Cone has played a total of 51 offensive snaps in three seasons. He’ll try and earn a spot as a special teams player, where he picked up five tackles in 2013.
  • FA Wide Receiver #84
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Falcons are concerned Roddy White could miss at least one game due to his hamstring pull.
The Falcons are on a bye this week, so the fear is that White won’t be able to play in Week 7 and possibly beyond. It puts his 133 consecutive games played streak in jeopardy and leaves the Falcons woefully thin at wideout. With Julio Jones (foot) likely done for the season, Matt Ryan’s top three healthy receivers are Harry Douglas, Kevin Cone and Drew Davis. Roddy is worth holding onto because he’ll be a target monster once healed up, but owners might not be able to use him until Week 8 or 9 at the earliest.
  • FA Wide Receiver #19
Drew Davis played on 43-of-48 snaps in Sunday’s win over the Bucs.
Davis is far ahead of Brian Robiskie and Kevin Cone, who combined to play three snaps. Davis had a meager one catch for 24 yards, but he saw a lot of Darrelle Revis and the Falcons only attempted 26 passes. If Roddy White (hamstring, ankle) continues to miss time, there will be better days ahead for Davis.
  • FA Wide Receiver #40
Kevin Cone was held without a catch in Week 7 against the Bucs.
Cone didn’t receive any targets and played behind Darius Johnson in four-wide sets. Despite injuries to Julio Jones and Roddy White, he remains off the fantasy radar.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution considers Kevin Cone a candidate for the Falcons’ No. 4 receiver job.
Cone was active for 12 games last season, but didn’t see any offensive snaps. He’s competing with Drew Davis, Marcus Jackson and former Mr. Irrelevant Tim Toone for a roster spot.
