Coach Butch Davis is optimistic that Kellen Winslow can play a significant role for the Browns down the stretch this season.
Best-case scenario, Winslow could return for the last five-six games of the season. While that’s right in the middle of the fantasy playoffs, it’s a lot to expect a rookie to produce big numbers after returning from injury.
  • FA Tight End #81
Kellen Winslow’s leg injury will cost him $10 million over the life of his contract.
That brings down the maximum value of the deal from $40 million to $29.4175 million. This could hurt the Poston Brothers ability to find clients in the future.
  • FA Tight End #81
Kellen Winslow is out of his cast and wearing a walking boot.
The Browns are expected to hire Maurice Carthon as their new offensive coordinator. Carthon did quite well using Jason Witten in Dallas, which is good news for Winslow’s fantasy prospects.
  • FA Tight End #81
Kellen Winslow lasted until his second day of minicamp before getting into an altercation with a Browns linebacker.
No one questions Winslow’s intensity. He’s on his way to an entertaining and successful rookie campaign.

Fox Sports’ James Browns reports that Kellen Winslow and the Browns have agreed in principle to a contract offer.
Winslow could be in Cleveland by tomorrow, but the team is denying the report for now. If the holdout ends before any preseason games, we’re still bullish on Winslow this season. He’s our No. 4 tight end, a fine value after the sixth round.
  • FA Tight End #81
Kellen Winslow said yesterday that it was important for him to get to training camp on time.
“I’m a competitive guy, so I want to be here, I want to do great things. If it (a contract dispute) gets to a week, I’ll go nuts.” Winslow is the early favorite for “Rookie most likely to have a long holdout”.
  • FA Tight End #81
Kellen Winslow and the Browns are reportedly "$12 million to $22 million” apart in contract negotiations.
Ugh. Winslow’s agents want a deal comparable to the top three picks in the draft. Cleveland is willing to make Winslow the highest paid tight end in NFL history. We’ve said it before: this could last a while.

Sources believe holdout tight end Kellen Winslow and the Browns are closer to a deal.
Winslow’s agents met with the Browns in person again on Monday. We’ll continue to wait and see.
  • FA Tight End #81
Kellen Winslow, still listed third on the Browns depth chart, is a game-time decision to play for Cleveland tonight.
He’ll be No. 1 on the depth chart in short order.

Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie “looked into” free agent TE Kellen Winslow, but opted to pass on signing the veteran.
The Raiders decided they were fine at tight end with Brandon Myers leading the NFL in catch percentage. While McKenzie respects Winslow’s talent, he acknowledges the tight end’s knee issues “weigh heavily on any decision.”
