The Falcons would be foolish to rush him along and put their best defender at risk. But Brooking sounds like he’ll be on the field.

Brooking leads the Falcons with 35 tackles this season. He has yet to practice this week, but is expected to practice Friday and start in week six. He should be safe to use this week.

Neither injury is believed to be serious.

Brooking is thought to have sprained his ankle. His status for the rest of the preseason is uncertain.

Brooking left Friday night’s preseason game with the injury.

Brooking was injured in Atlanta’s first exhibition contest. The weak-side linebacker should be a good IDP target if he remains healthy.

“Sean Lee must have had his hand on the ball 10 or 12 times through the night,” owner/GM Jerry Jones said. Lee played nearly every snap while Bradie James and Keith Brooking rotated at the other spot inside. Last year’s second-rounder has emerged as a key player in Rob Ryan’s defense.

“They’re great guys,” said Jones. “Unfortunately, all good things come to an end. That’s what we’ve got to decide.” James should have an easier time finding a taker than Brooking, who wants to play one more year in his age-37 season.

He was bothered the last few weeks by a hamstring injury. He didn’t look 100%, but he shouldn’t miss any playing time.
