    Texans re-signed OG Kasey Studdard.
Studdard missed all of 2011 with an ankle injury after appearing in just four games in 2010. He started 14 games for the Texans in 2009. He’ll provide depth at guard as reserve Thomas Austin recovers from a hamstring injury.

Texans signed sixth-round pick guard Kasey Studdard to a four-year contract.
The former Texas Longhorn is the third draft pick signed by the Texans. Studdard should provide depth in middle of the offensive line, a unit that has been a weak spot for franchise almost from day one.

Texans coach Gary Kubiak confirmed after Sunday’s game that Gs Chris White and Fred Weary will miss the remainder of the season with knee and leg injuries, respectively.
Weary broke his leg, while White torn his medial collateral ligament. The Texans will likely turn to rookie Kasey Studdard at right guard for now.

  • Texans placed LG Chester Pitts (microfracture, meniscus surgery) on injured reserve, ending his season.
The loss stings, but Houston has a promising young backup in Kasey Studdard and should be able to withstand the loss. Pitts’ surgery was highly extensive and won’t help his 2010 market value. He’s slated for free agency.

Kasey Studdard will be the Texans’ starter at left guard, according to beat writer John McClain.
The Texans let Chester Pitts walk in free agency because they are high on Studdard. He’s a cheaper alternative and should be just as effective. More athletic than Pitts, Studdard is a better fit for the zone-blocking scheme.
  • FA Guard #73
Coach Gary Kubiak confirmed that OL Wade Smith “has a legitimate chance to start inside” at center or guard.
Smith wasn’t guaranteed a starting job, but he can earn one by outplaying left guard Kasey Studdard, right guard Antoine Caldwell, or center Chris Myers.
  • FA Guard #65
Texans re-signed OGs Mike Brisiel and Kasey Studdard.
Brisiel started nine games last season before a calf injury sent him to injured reserve. He’ll be in the mix for the starting right guard position. The 28-year-old Brisiel is an underrated lineman, excelling in run and pass blocking. Studdard was active for just one game in 2010 and will be on the bubble.
