Chargers selected Michigan LB Junior Colson with the No. 69 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Colson will rejoin Jim Harbaugh in LA. A native of Haiti who emigrated to the US at nine years old when he was adopted by an American aid worker who met him at the orphanage he was raised in, Colson (6’4/238) instantly gravitated toward football as soon as he stepped on the gridiron. The 2021 four-star early enrollee became an immediate fixture on the Wolverines’ defense, starting seven games while accumulating 60 tackles and achieving Freshman All-American status as a true. He charted 196 tackles over the last two seasons with a gaudy 18% tackle rate and rarely allowed ball carriers to escape his grasp, leading all Power Five linebackers with a spectacular 4.7% missed tackle percentage in 2023. Colson’s coverage chops are sound as well, allowing a solid 69% completion rate for 185 receiving yards and a laudable 83rd percentile PFF cover grade (7th in P5). With a National Championship and a pair of Second Team All-Big Ten campaigns in his back pocket, Michigan’s defensive captain opted to enter the NFL Draft after just three years in college. Unfortunately he sustained a right hamstring injury and was unable to perform any Combine or pro day testing in the lead up to the draft. Colson is well proportioned head-to-toe and isn’t bashful about taking on offensive linemen in order to make a play.

Michigan received a verbal commitment from four-star 2021 LB Junior Colson.
In addition to Michigan, Colson was also seriously considering Tennessee, Ole Miss, LSU and Oregon. The 6-foot-2, 228-pound linebacker was looking likely to commit to UM heading into the weekend. Hailing from Brentwood, Tennessee, Colson is just tapping the surface of his potential. He’s long, and with added bulk, may be able to improve on what’s not the most physical of games. The athleticism is there in spades. ESPN ranks Colson as the No. 184 overall prospect for the 2021 cycle.

Uncommitted four-star 2021 LB Junior Colson will announce his pledge on May 24.
That’s on Sunday, for all of you who have lost track of dates as quarantine slowly erodes the concept of time. Michigan, Tennessee, Ole Miss, LSU and Oregon are all players for the 6-foot-2, 228-pound Colson, who hails from Brentwood, Tennessee. The five current predictions in the 247Sports Crystal Ball have him announcing for the Wolverines upcoming. On the field, Colson is a lanky linebacker with real raw athletic upside. He’s not the most bone-rattling of linebackers in terms of physicality, but a little added bulk could help on that front. Colson used to play wide receiver and that shows in his range and movement skills. On the 247Sports composite board, Colson slots in as the No. 116 overall prospect in the 2021 class.
