Jets selected Wake Forest S Josh Bush with the No. 187 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.
A three-year starter for the Demon Deacons, Bush nabbed All-ACC honors in 2011 on the back of a 59 tackle, six-interception campaign. Bush is an adept center fielder, but possesses only average athleticism, and profiles mostly as a reserve/special teamer.
  • FA Defensive Back #20
Jets signed sixth-round S Josh Bush to a four-year contract.
Although Bush is versatile enough to play cornerback, the Wake Forest standout is expected to primarily play safety for the Jets. He figures to mostly focus on special teams during his rookie campaign, but should push for a few snaps at safety behind Eric Smith and LaRon Landry.
  • FA Defensive Back #20
Jets FS Josh Bush is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.
Bush is donning a red non-contact jersey at OTAs, but he should be good to go for training camp. He played just 17 snaps on defense last season, but Bush is part of the trio -- along with Antonio Allen and Jaiquawn Jarrett -- competing for the starting safety spot next to Dawan Landry.
  • FA Defensive Back #20
Jets DC Dennis Thurman says there will be a three-way competition between Josh Bush, Jaiquawn Jarrett and Antonio Allen to start opposite Dawan Landry at safety.
The trio combined for just 71 snaps last season, so it’s a trouble spot. Jarrett was out of the league in 2012, while Allen is only really useful against the run. That leaves Bush as the slight favorite, but the Jets could still end up bringing in outside help. Re-signing Eric Smith is a possibility.
  • FA Defensive Back #20
ESPN New York considers second-year S Josh Bush the “favorite” to win the Jets’ starting free safety job.
Bush played in only five games on defense as a rookie, but made eight special teams tackles and earned a longer look. The Jets got away with coverage liability Yeremiah Bell at free safety last year, so Bush can’t be a huge downgrade. The Wake Forest alum dabbled at both cornerback and safety in college.
  • FA Defensive Back #20
Broncos promoted S Josh Bush from the practice squad.
The Broncos needed safety help with T.J. Ward (ankle) expected to miss Week 13. TE Richard Gordon was waived in a corresponding roster move.
  • FA Defensive Back #20
    Bills signed S Josh Bush.
He takes the roster spot of SS Aaron Williams, who was placed on I.R.-designated for return with a neck injury. Bush will pitch in on special teams if active.
  • FA Defensive Back #20
Broncos signed S Josh Bush off their practice squad.
After losing backup safety and special teamer Quinton Carter to I.R. last week, Bush gets the call. He’ll fill the exact same role as Carter. Bush appeared in 35 games for the Jets across the 2012-2014 seasons.
  • FA Defensive Back #39
Coach Rex Ryan said Antonio Allen is in the lead for the Jets’ starting free safety job.
“I love Allen’s length and he’s been impressive at times,” Ryan said. “He’s not there yet, but some of the things he’s done, he made a couple real nice plays the other day.” Jaiquawn Jarrett is competing with Allen for the job, while Josh Bush is working as SS Dawan Landry’s backup. Allen, entering his second season, started one game as a rookie after being promoted from the practice squad.
