NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill reports the Saints hosted three free agent running backs on Tuesday.
The team brought in free agents Kerryon Johnson, Rodney Smith and Josh Adams after Alvin Kamara went to the medical tent for a brief period in Sunday’s loss to Atlanta. Underhill adds that he’s heard “whispers” Kamara “might have gotten a little banged up” in that game, too. Mark Ingram would surge as a low-end RB1 against the Titans no matter who is signed behind him if Kamara is in fact ruled out for Week 10.

  • Wide Receiver #84
Jets declared Keelan Cole (knee) inactive for Week 1 against the Panthers.
Cole’s absence opens up opportunity for Elijah Moore, who is now likely to be a full time player in Week 1. With Jamison Crowder also inactive, the Jets passing offense should be highly concentrated to Corey Davis and Elijah Moore. Braxton Berrios will likely see snaps in the slot when Moore plays outside. Denzel Mims will likely play outside when Moore is in the slot. Tyler Kroft also becomes interesting as a desperation tight end play. Also inactive for the Jets are RB Josh Adams, RB La’Mical Perine, LB Quincy Wilson, CB, Jason Pinnock and DL Jonathan Marshall.

  • FA Running Back #31
    Jets waived RB Josh Adams.
Tevin Coleman, Ty Johnson, Michael Carter, and La’Mical Perine are the top-four running backs in New York. It always looked like an uphill battle for Adams to make the roster over of any of those four. Adams figures to slot in as a depth piece for any team he signs with.

  • FA Running Back #31
Jets re-signed RB Josh Adams to a one-year contract.
Adams was a restricted free agent the Jets declined to tender at the “low” level. Going on 25, Adams has touched the ball only 43 times over the past two seasons in New York after experiencing stronger usage as an Eagle in 2018. The Jets’ backfield needs to be completely remade, but Adams is unlikely to transcend role player/special teams status.

  • FA Running Back #21
Coach Adam Gase said Frank Gore will be the starting running back Week 2 against the 49ers.
With Le’Veon Bell (hamstring, I.R.) out, it’s up to 37-year-old Gore and practice squad-types Josh Adams and Kalen Ballage to carry the mail for the Jets’ anemic offense. None are particularly enticing fantasy plays against San Francisco’s defensive front.

  • FA Running Back #6
Jets placed RB Le’Veon Bell (hamstring) on injured reserve.
The report is via NFL Network’s Kim Jones. As we know by now, Bell will be eligible to return in three weeks. In Bell’s case, that will be Week 5 vs. Arizona. Frank Gore will be the “first man up” in Bell’s absence, but it was actually Josh Adams who appeared to be Gang Green’s lead back following Bell’s injury. Lamical Perine is also due back soon from his ankle injury. Basically, it is a situation to avoid against the 49ers this week, though Gore is probably still the best FLEX dart throw. Even though it will not feel good, Bell should be held onto in 10-12 team re-draft leagues.

Josh Adams rushed two times for eight yards and a touchdown in the Jets’ Week 1 loss to the Bills, adding two receptions for 14 yards.
Promoted from the practice squad on Saturday, Adams took over as the closest thing the Jets had to a “lead back” following Le’Veon Bell’s hamstring injury. Adams was only on the roster because Lamical Perine (ankle) wasn’t quite ready to go. There is a world where Adams offers desperation FLEX value for Week 2 against the 49ers, but we are multiple Bell and Perine health updates away from that for the time being.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Jets added Josh Adams from their practice squad to block another team from signing him.
Initially thought to be called up to cover for Le’Veon Bell (knee), Schefter reports that Adams was added to the 53-man roster because another team — perhaps the divisional foe Dolphins who just lost Mark Walton for the next four games — wanted to sign him. Bell is reportedly “good” and dealing with an injury that is “not something significant.” The team will release Bell’s MRI results soon enough, but all signs suddenly point to the costly free agent acquisition suiting up for Week 10 against the Giants.
  • FA Running Back #31
Jets signed RB Josh Adams from the practice squad.
It’s an ominous sign for Le’Veon Bell’s outlook following his surprising MRI on Monday. The Jets now have Ty Montgomery, Bilal Powell, and Adams available if Bell were to officially miss any time. Adams led the Eagles in rushing yards (511) last year but has stayed stashed on New York’s practice squad until now.
  • FA Running Back #31
Jets signed RB Josh Adams to the practice squad.
Adams went through waivers unclaimed, allowing him to sign with a team that lacks running back depth. The Jets certainly count. Adams led the Eagles in rushing yards (511) last season, but his value on special teams will largely determine his NFL future.
