49ers released/waived S Jonathan Cyprien, DL Alex Barrett, WR River Cracraft, DL Darrion Daniels, LB Evan Foster, C Hroniss Grasu, TE MarQueis Gray, TE Chase Harrell, CB Tim Harris, RB JaMycal Hasty, FB Josh Hokit, WR Jauan Jennings, CB Dontae Johnson, OT Jaryd Jones-Smith, DE Dion Jordan, DE Cameron Malveaux, S Jared Mayden, WR Shawn Poindexter, OL Dakoda Shepley, OL William Sweet, DB Jamar Taylor, LB Joe Walker, and WR Kevin White.
The 49ers added Cyprien in the middle of training camp to compete for a reserve role in the secondary. He had only played in five games the previous two seasons. Cyprien hasn’t started multiple games in a year since 2017. At 30 years old, Cyprien’s best bet is to latch on with another team in need of secondary depth at some point this year.

  • FA Defensive Back #32
    49ers signed S Johnathan Cyprien.
Cyprien has bounced around in recent seasons and doesn’t project as a reliable starter at this point in his career. Instead, he’ll compete for leftover snaps assuming he shows he’s healthy after only playing in five games over the past two seasons. The 49ers’ secondary is aging and simply needed more bodies.

  • FA Defensive Back #32
Falcons placed S Johnathan Cyprien on injured reserve.
The Falcons did not disclose Cyprien’s injury. He missed all of 2018 with a torn ACL. Acquired from the Eagles nine days ago, Cyprien played 24 snaps in his Week 5 debut for the Falcons. The 2013 second-rounder is in his age-29 campaign.
  • MIA Linebacker #45
Eagles acquired LB Duke Riley and a 2020 sixth-round pick from the Falcons in exchange for S Johnathan Cyprien and a 2020 seventh-round pick.
Riley was a third-round pick in 2017, going 75th overall out of LSU. In college, Riley didn’t start until his final season but blew up the Senior Bowl and Combine with his athleticism -- 4.58 forty and 6.89 three-cone times -- to put himself in the Day 2 conversation. Riley, however, couldn’t crack the Falcons’ defense this year and will get a fresh start as an upside flyer for the Eagles.

Falcons acquired S Johnathan Cyprien and a 2020 seventh-round pick from the Eagles in exchange for LB Duke Riley and a 2020 sixth-round pick.
Signed in August, Cyprien played a mere 15 snaps for the Eagles Weeks 1-4. With the Falcons losing SS Keanu Neal to a torn Achilles’ last week, they went with Kemal Ishmael next to FS Ricardo Allen in the loss to the Titans Sunday. Cyprien offers them a box safety presence with minimal coverage skills. He’s known more for his physicality. Riley was a former third-round pick who just couldn’t crack the rotation in Atlanta.
  • FA Defensive Back #32
Eagles signed S Johnathan Cyprien to a one-year contract.
29-year-old Cyprien tore his ACL and missed all of last season. Known more as a box safety against the run, Cyprien’s cover skills are a bit lacking. Andrew Sendejo hasn’t been impressing in Eagles camp by some accounts, so perhaps it’ll be either Cyprien or Sendejo that makes the final 53-man roster.
  • FA Defensive Back #32
Free agents Johnathan Cyprien and Tre Boston are visiting the Giants on Monday.
Cyprien turns 29 later this month and missed all of last season with a torn ACL. He’s at or near full health and is hoping to latch on with someone for camp and the regular season. Boston just turned 27 last month and spent last season with the Cardinals. Jabrill Peppers and Antoine Bethea are currently penciled in as the Giants’ safety tandem with Michael Thomas in tow.
  • FA Defensive Back #32
Free agent SS Johnathan Cyprien isn’t expected to re-sign with the Titans.
Cyprien is one of the top free agents that’s still unsigned. He missed all of 2018 to ACL surgery but is close to fully healthy. 28-year-old Cyprien should land with a new team before training camp.

ProFootballTalk reports free agent S Johnathan Cyprien is visiting the Eagles on Tuesday.
Cyprien visited the Colts on Monday. Fully recovered from his ACL tear, Cyprien should have a new team in the near future.
  • FA Defensive Back #32
Free agent S Johnathan Cyprien is working out for the Colts on Monday.
Cyprien lost 2018 to an ACL tear, but he was cleared last month and is looking for a job after being released by the Titans. The Colts have good talent at safety, but they might be looking for veteran depth behind oft-injured starter Clayton Geathers.
