Falcons promoted QB John Parker Wilson from their practice squad and waived DT Carlton Powell.
The Vikings, whose offense is run by ex-Falcons QBs coach Bill Musgrave, were trying to sign Wilson to be their third-stringer behind Christian Ponder and Joe Webb. Minnesota would’ve been a better long-term landing spot for Wilson, but he’s staying down south. He’s No. 3 behind Matt Ryan and Chris Redman.
  • FA Quarterback #7
Undrafted rookie QB Dominique Davis continues to be a “revelation” since training camp started.
Davis completed 10-of-18 passes for 121 yards a touchdown against the Bengals Thursday night. He showed poise on a potential game-winning touchdown drive, but was victimized by two drops. Davis already looks better than John Parker Wilson, and will force the Falcons to consider keeping three QBs on the roster this season.
  • FA Quarterback #4
Falcons waived QB John Parker Wilson.
Wilson spent the first three seasons of his career bouncing around the Falcons’ practice squad. It’s a bad sign that he was never able to beat out the underwhelming Chris Redman for the backup job. The Falcons have tabbed undrafted rookie Dominique Davis as a developmental third quarterback.
  • FA Quarterback #4
Jaguars signed QB John Parker Wilson off the team’s practice squad.
Wilson spent his first three seasons on Atlanta’s practice squad before getting waived by the team in August. His promotion by Jacksonville comes as insurance behind Blaine Gabbert (left shoulder) and Chad Henne.
  • FA Quarterback #4
Jaguars waived QB John Parker Wilson.
Wilson was on the roster for one week while Blaine Gabbert nursed a labral tear in his non-throwing shoulder. The Jaguars will move forward with two QBs.
  • FA Quarterback #4
Jaguars released QB John Parker Wilson.
The former Alabama quarterback has bounced around the league for four years, but has yet to appear in a regular season game. Going on 28, Wilson is about out of time in the NFL.
  • FA Quarterback #4
Steelers claimed QB John Parker Wilson off waivers from the Jaguars.
Pittsburgh was the only team to place a claim on Wilson, who was cut by Jacksonville on Wednesday. The 27-year-old Wilson joins Ben Roethlisberger as the only quarterbacks under contract for the 2013 season with the Steelers at the moment. He likely won’t last long.
  • FA Quarterback #4
Falcons signed Alabama QB John Parker Wilson.
Wilson lacks size and arm-strength, but scouts love his intangibles and leadership ability. He’d be a better fit on a West Coast offense. As it is, Wilson is likely ticketed for the practice squad with Chris Redman and D.J. Shockley ahead of him on the depth chart.
  • ATL Quarterback
    Falcons released QB D.J. Shockley.
Shockley was outplayed by rookie John Parker Wilson this preseason. He is still eligible to be on the Falcons’ practice squad, but he will likely try to land a gig on another 53-man roster.
  • FA Quarterback #8
After his strong half Saturday against the Chargers, Chris Redman is expected to be the Falcons’ No. 2 QB.
He looked better than any backup QB has this preseason. D.J. Shockley and undrafted rookie John Parker Wilson are battling for the No. 3 job.
