Bengals suspended LT Corey Glenn one game for disciplinary reasons.
Glenn had already been fined $200,000 for conduct detrimental to the team following an outburst Wednesday that reportedly culminated in the veteran asking for his release. Apparently Glenn has been at odds with the Bengals over the handling of his concussion. With all the bad blood that’s been spilled, the two sides appear headed for a messy divorce. John Jerry will spell Glenn at left tackle Sunday versus Jacksonville.
  • FA Guard #64
    Bengals re-signed OG John Jerry.
Jerry was one of numerous cutdown casualties this weekend, but only had to sweat it out for 48 hours before landing back in Cincinnati. He’ll claim the roster spot vacated by fellow O lineman O’Shea Dugas, who is headed to injured reserve.
  • FA Guard #64
    Bengals released OG John Jerry.
Jerry, 32, was unable to win a starting job on a weak offensive line, but he does have some value for his ability to play guard and tackle with tons of starting experience. Michael Jordan and John Miller are the Bengals’ starting guards.
  • FA Guard #64
    Bengals signed OG John Jerry.
Jerry was a four-year starter for the Giants before they released him at final cuts last year. He spent the 2018 season out of the league. The veteran will compete for a backup job in camp.
  • FA Guard #64
New coach Joe Philbin hasn’t decided whether John Jerry will play guard or tackle in 2012.
“We have to find a home for him,” said Philbin, acknowledging his offensive line is “not at all” set. The right side of the line remains up in the air, with the roles of Jerry and OT Lydon Murtha uncertain.
  • FA Guard #64
John Jerry made his first career start at left tackle in Week 15, with Jake Long battling a back injury.
It wasn’t much of a test against a Bills defense lacking a pass rush, but the coaching staff was impressed that Jerry “competed” nonetheless. The 2010 third-rounder has recovered nicely since a training camp that was described as a “bitter, bitter disappointment.”
  • MIA Tackle
Free agent RG Vernon Carey is not expected back with the Dolphins in 2012.
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel hears that Carey’s value is “much higher elsewhere than in South Florida.” Declining RT Marc Colombo is also expected to be replaced. John Jerry, a 2010 third-rounder, will likely be thrust back into a starting role, and GM Jeff Ireland maintains a fondness for tackle project Lydon Murtha. New coach Joe Philbin will be rebuilding the O-Line, sending him back to his coaching roots.
  • FA Tackle #73
Dolphins placed OL Artis Hicks (neck) on injured reserve, ending his season.
Projected to start at right guard over enigma John Jerry, Hicks appears to have aggravated a mid-August neck injury. Jerry came down with an undisclosed injury in the preseason finale, leaving the position in flux entering the season. Turning 34 in November, Hicks may be hitting the end of the line as an NFL player.
  • FA Guard #64
Dolphins third-year OG John Jerry reported to training camp overweight at 360 pounds and appears unlikely to make the roster.
The Dolphins once loved Jerry as a power-blocking prospect out of Ole Miss, but his stock has crashed under the new coaching staff. Overweight, out of shape, and a poor scheme fit, look for Jerry to be waived ahead of final cuts.
  • FA Tackle #73
The Palm Beach Post confirms Artis Hicks ran ahead of John Jerry as the starting right guard for most of the Dolphins’ offseason program.
Jerry had a chance to nail down a starting job after the Dolphins let veteran Vernon Carey walk, but isn’t ready to shed his “bust” label just yet. It will bode extremely poorly for Jerry’s Miami future if he can’t overtake Hicks in camp.
