Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports that Joakim Soria is retiring after 14 seasons in the major leagues.
Soria spent his first five seasons with the Royals, emerging as a lights-out closer during that span, before spending the remainder of his lengthy career with stints in eight different organizations. The 37-year-old two-time All-Star finishes with 229 saves to go along with a sparkling 3.11 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 831/231 K/BB ratio across 763 innings (773 appearances) since 2007.

Joakim Soria (finger) is scheduled to throw a live bullpen session on Monday.
Soria threw a bullpen session on Friday and emerged without any issues. Assuming his next throwing session goes well, there’s a chance he could be activated from the 10-day injured list to make his Blue Jays debut without needing a minor-league rehab assignment.

Blue Jays acquired RHP Joakim Soria from the Diamondbacks for two players to be named later.
The 37-year-old right-hander will see a major dip to his fantasy value, as he’ll be relegated to a setup role rather than functioning as the primary closer like he was with the Diamondbacks. Since he’s not a major asset in ratios or strikeout, he can be jettisoned in most mixed leagues.

Now Soria, 37, adds another capable arm to their late-inning mix. He owns a 4.30 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 31/8 K/BB ratio over 29 1/3 innings and recorded six saves for the D’Backs.
