Maryland redshirt sophomore WR Jeshaun Jones (leg) is out for the year.
Jones (6'1/185) was in position to see an increased role upon the season ending injury to Dontay Demus Jr., however shortly into his first start of the season against Ohio State the redshirt sophomore wideout sustained a leg injury that will keep him out for the remainder of the 2021 campaign. He was pretty efficient in limited usage, catching 19-of-25 targets for 225 yards and 11.8 yards per catch. However his four drops translated to a woeful 17.4 percent drop rate which hampered his ability to make a bigger impact on the Terrapins’ offense. Jones has not been able to build on a promising redshirt freshman season when he reeled in five touchdown passes on 22 receptions.

Maryland redshirt sophomore WR Jeshaun Jones (leg) was carted off the field in the first quarter of Saturday’s 66-17 loss to Ohio State.
This could be yet another brutal loss for the Terrapins, as Jones (6'1/185) left on just the second play of the game, after being named the starter in play of wide receiver Dontay Demus Jr., whose season was ended due to a torn ACL last week against Iowa. Not much has gone right for Maryland over these last two weeks, having lost one, possibly two of its top receivers, all while being outscored 117-31 in the process. Mercifully, the Terps get a bye week before returning in Week 8 for a road matchup against Minnesota.

Maryland redshirt sophomore WR Jeshaun Jones (leg) was carted off the field during the first quarter of Saturday’s game at Ohio State.
This is a brutal development for both Jones (6'1/185) and the Terps, who see a talented receiver go down with a serious leg injury for the second straight game. The redshirt sophomore started Saturday’s game in place of Dontay Demus, who was injured during last Friday’s home loss to Iowa. With Jones and Demus out, Maryland will look to Tayon Fleet-Davis for more big plays on the outside.

Maryland redshirt sophomore WR Jeshaun Jones (undisclosed) did not start this past weekend’s win over West Virginia due to the coaching staff’s desire to bring him along slowly.
Jones (6'1/185) and OL Jaelyn Duncan both missed time in fall camp due to injury, so HC Mike Locksley decided to bring both along slowly in the opener. As a result neither started against WVU, with Jones catching two passes for seven yards. It would not come as a surprise if Locksley took a similar approach this weekend as Maryland hosts Howard. Following that will be the Terps’ Big Ten opener at Illinois, which is scheduled for the following Friday (September 17).

Maryland redshirt sophomore WR Jeshaun Jones (undisclosed) is listed as the starting X receiver ahead of Saturday’s game vs. Rutgers.
Jones (6'1/185), who missed all of last season due to a torn ACL, made his 2020 debut in Maryland’s Nov. 24 loss to Northwestern. The redshirt sophomore has appeared in three games this season, but has not seen action since the Nov. 7 win over Penn State. Jones is expected to make his return Saturday, and he’s moved back into the starting lineup ahead of junior Darryl Jones (no relation). Jeshaun has caught nine passes for 152 yards and a touchdown in 2020.

  • TB Wide Receiver #18
Maryland freshman WR Rakim Jarrett is not expected to be available for Saturday’s game against Indiana for undisclosed reasons.
According to Wes Brown of Testudo Times, Jarrett (6'0/200) posted on his Instagram account that he is inactive for Saturday’s game. What the reason is for the freshman’s absence is unknown, but with Jarrett down Maryland will be short a wide receiver capable of making big plays. In his most recent outing the one-time LSU commit caught five passes for 144 yards and two touchdowns in a win over Penn State. With Dontay Demus being Maryland’s leading receiver, Jeshaun Jones will be asked to pick up the slack to help account for Jarrett’s absence.

Maryland redshirt sophomore WR Jeshaun Jones is listed as the starting X-receiver heading into Saturday’s game at Northwestern.
Jones (6'1/185) missed all of last season after suffering a torn ACL during a preseason practice in August 2019. The redshirt sophomore’s status as a starter shows that he’s back to full strength and ready to contribute. In 2018 Jones appeared in 12 games and caught 22 passes for 288 yards and five touchdowns. He’s versatile enough to be used in the slot as well, but for now Jones will be on the outside.

Maryland sophomore WR Jeshaun Jones (knee) will take a redshirt for the season.
No shock on this one, as Jones tore his ACL early in August camp and was unable to make a return before the end of the campaign (that would have essentially required a superhuman rehab effort). The 6-foot-1, 176-pound wideout will have three years of eligibility remaining beginning in 2020.

Maryland sophomore WR Jeshaun Jones is expected to miss the fall campaign after tearing his ACL during Monday’s practice.
Jones (6'1/176) flashed as a true freshman last season after initially signing on as a three-star recruit, posting a 22-288-5 receiving line in 12 games (two starts made in that space). He was expected to handle a starting role during the coming campaign. Those plans will have to be put on hold now that the wideout is down for the count. Jones figures to take a redshirt for the upcoming season, after which, he should be ready -- or close to it -- for spring practice in 2020, assuming his development progresses smoothly.

The Athletic’s Nicole Auerbach believes Maryland sophomore WR Jeshaun Jones will start in the “slot and Z receiver spots.”
Jones (6'1/176) had one of the most remarkable starts to a college career ever with a passing, rushing and receiving touchdown on his first three touches in Week 1. He finished his freshman year with 288 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 22 receptions. He’ll look to take a step forward in a bigger role this upcoming season for the Terrapins.
