Panthers signed T Jeremy Bridges, formerly of the Cardinals.
He’ll add depth to a Carolina offensive line that lost their left tackle for the season Sunday. Bridges isn’t likely to make a big impact.
  • FA Tackle #70
The Arizona Republic expects fourth-round pick OT Bobby Massie to push Jeremy Bridges for the Cardinals’ starting right tackle job.
Massie was considered a first-round sleeper by SI’s Tony Pauline, but likely fell over concerns about his strength and fluidity. He played exclusively right tackle at Ole Miss, and should be given every opportunity to beat out Bridges, who’s started more than five games just once since 2007.
  • FA Guard #72
The Cardinals haven’t “closed the door” on re-signing free agents OG Deuce Lutui and OT Brandon Keith.
Their return would have to come at the right price and likely not until after the draft. Pass-blocking liability Jeremy Bridges would start at right tackle if the season started today, though the Cardinals are expected to address the position in the draft. AzCardinals.com’s Darren Urban “never got the sense” that Arizona is interested in free agent Marcus McNeill.
  • FA Tackle #79
Cardinals RT Brandon Keith sustained a concussion in Sunday’s loss to the 49ers.
Keith and Jeremy Bridges have been playing musical chairs at the right tackle spot all season anyway. There won’t be a huge dropoff if Keith isn’t cleared in time to play the Rams Sunday.
  • FA Tackle #79
Cardinals RT Brandon Keith left Sunday’s game with a knee injury and did not return.
He and Jeremy Bridges have been taking turns losing the RT job, and are essentially below-average, interchangeable parts. Keith has been dealing with this injury for over a year, so we don’t expect him to get fully healthy anytime soon.
  • FA Tackle #79
Cardinals RT Brandon Keith was benched in favor of Jeremy Bridges during Sunday’s loss to the Ravens.
The Cardinals were getting eaten alive by Terrell Suggs and the Ravens, but it could have been anyone. Kevin Kolb has been sacked 24 times so far this season, second-most in the league behind Ben Roethlisberger. Coach Ken Whisenhunt admitted that a significant shakeup along the offensive line this week is possible, specifically mentioning LT Levi Brown as someone that could be benched.
  • FA Tackle #72
Cardinals placed OT Jeremy Bridges on injured reserve with a torn left thumb ligament, ending his season.
The injury required surgery. Bridges was a five-game starter last season but had lost the Cardinals’ starting right tackle job to rookie Bobby Massie in training camp. While Bridges’ performance has declined in recent years, he was one of Arizona’s most experienced remaining linemen. We’d say the Cards are going to struggle in the front five this year, except you already knew that.
  • FA Tackle #70
Although fourth-round RT Bobby Massie is working with the second team behind Jeremy Bridges, coach Ken Whisenhunt is “looking forward to seeing him compete for that spot.”
Whiz is eager to see Massie improve his technique and pick up defenses, but is impressed with the rookie’s athleticism. “His pass sets have been very good,” said Whisenhunt. “I’ll tell you what, he looks the part. Big guy, good movement.”
  • FA Tackle #72
Jeremy Bridges is listed as the starting right tackle on the Cardinals’ first official depth chart.
As the veteran, Bridges gets the nod over fourth-round rookie Bobby Massie. But in terms of talent, Massie’s ceiling is much higher. The Cardinals are going to field one of the league’s weakest offensive lines no matter who wins this battle.
  • D’Anthony Batiste will replace Jeremy Bridges as the starting right tackle in the Cardinals’ second preseason game.
The hope was that rookie Bobby Massie would emerge as the starter, but he continues to run with the second team. Bridges, meanwhile, is working as the second-string right guard. The offensive line remains a major concern in Arizona.
