Cardinals signed RB Javarris James, K/P Ricky Schmitt, CB Larry Parker, and S Eddie Elder.
Elder and Parker are UDFAs. The Cards could have aimed higher for a No. 5 back, but settled for Edgerrin’s younger cousin. James is a subpar talent with appeal only as a short-yardage runner. Schmitt can both placekick and punt.

Free agent RB Javarris James participated in the Cardinals’ rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.
Another notable Cardinals tryout player was former Rams WR Keenan Burton. James, 24, was waived by the Colts at final cuts last season and spent the year out of football. He has below-average talent, but is keeping the dream alive.

Cardinals RB Javarris James is out for the season with a torn ACL.
He’ll be placed on injured reserve, ending his season. James tore the ACL in Thursday night’s preseason finale. A middling-at-best talent, James was outplayed by unheralded William Powell before suffering the year-ending injury.

Cardinals RB Javarris James will be sidelined a “week or more” with an abductor muscle injury.
It’s a hip injury for the third-year runner, who spent 2011 out of football after appearing in 10 games for the Colts as a rookie. If James’ timeline holds to its “or more” portion, his already slim chances of cracking the Cardinals’ 53-man roster could be toast.

NFL suspended Cardinals restricted free agent RB Javarris James four games for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
Edgerrin’s cousin was a borderline NFL prospect already and is now highly unlikely to get a tender from the Cardinals. Javarris tore his ACL last preseason.

Free agent RB Javarris James was arrested on Thursday for failing to appear in court.
James’ rap sheet has been growing since entering the league in 2010. In 2011, he was arrested for marijuana possession, and it was announced last month that he would be suspended for the first four games of the 2013 season for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. James hasn’t appeared in a game since 2010 with the Colts.

Colts coach Jim Caldwell said Donald Brown did not aggravate his hamstring injury against the Texans.
Caldwell said that Javarris James was part of the gameplan and that’s why he played late in the game over Brown. Neither Brown nor James looked good Monday night, while Mike Hart excelled before leaving with an ankle injury. It’s possible Hart has passed Brown on the depth chart, assuming he’s healthy.

Donald Brown rushed nine times for just 16 yards and had two catches for 13 yards in the Colts’ Week 8 win over Houston. He appeared to re-injure his hamstring late.
He had just three fewer rushes than Mike Hart but was out-gained on the ground 84 to 16. The Colts looked better with Mike Hart on the field. Brown appeared to re-injure his hamstring was replaced late in the game by former practice squad player Javarris James. Brown may not be worth keeping in fantasy leagues -- if Hart is healthy enough to play next week.

Javarris James ran three times for four yards in Monday’s Week 8 win over Houston, 30-17.
James gashed through a huge hole on his 7-yard run, but posted negative numbers on his other two. He should not be added in any formats just yet, but it’s worth getting James’ name out there as the three backs ahead of him on the depth chart are all banged up.
