The Magic have requested waivers for Jarrett Culver, Alex Morales, Jalen Slawson, and Ethan Thompson.
Saturday is a busy day in the NBA, with many teams beginning the process of trimming down their rosters in advance of opening night. Orlando waived four training camp participants, with former lottery pick Culver boasting the highest profile. He was unlikely to factor into the rotation if retained, and the same can be said for Morales, Slawson, and Thompson. Look for some players to land with Orlando’s G League affiliate.
  • ORL Shooting Guard #7
According to HoopsHype’s Michael Scotto, the Magic have signed Jarrett Culver to an Exhibit 10 contract.
The sixth overall pick in the 2019 draft, Culver has failed to lock down a consistent role in the NBA. After appearing in 10 games for the Hawks during the 2022-23 season, he spent the entirety of the 2023-24 campaign with Rio Grande Valley in the NBA G League. Look for Culver to land with Orlando’s G League affiliate ultimately.
  • LAC Shooting Guard #10
Bogdan Bogdanovic (right knee injury management) is questionable for Wednesday’s game against the Nets.
  • FA Shooting Guard #24
Jarrett Culver (non-COVID illness) is available for Wednesday’s game against the Nets.
  • FA Shooting Guard #24
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Hawks are waiving Jarrett Culver.
The Hawks signed Culver to a two-way contract before the season began, but he saw minimal playing time. His two-way slot will go to Donovan Williams, who was signed Saturday afternoon.

  • FA Shooting Guard #8
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Hawks are signing Donovan Williams to a two-way contract.
Undrafted out of UNLV, Williams averaged 15.6 points per game with the Long Island Nets of the NBA G League. In order to free up a roster spot for him, the Hawks will waive former lottery pick Jarrett Culver.

  • FA Shooting Guard #24
Jarrett Culver (non-COVID illness) is out for Tuesday’s game against the Pacers.
With the Hawks’ getting closer to full strength on the wings, Culver’s availability will not impact fantasy basketball.

  • LAC Shooting Guard #10
Bogdan Bogdanovic (right knee injury management) is out for Monday’s game against the Grizzlies.
Bogdanovic played 36 minutes off the bench in Sunday’s win over the Bulls, so his absence will leave a noticeable hole in the Hawks’ rotation. Jalen Johnson and Jarrett Culver would be in line for an increase in playing time, but neither is a trustworthy streaming option. Johnson is the better choice of the two in deep leagues, as he logged 15 minutes on Sunday while Culver was handed a DNP-CD.

  • ATL Point Guard #11
The Hawks will start Trae Young, Dejounte Murray, A.J. Griffin, Jalen Johnson and Clint Capela against the Thunder on Monday.
After a one game absence, Trae will return to the starting lineup in place of Jarrett Culver. Culver was a solid streaming option for a couple games, and he should still play a decent role in this game, but Nate McMillan is rolling with their last two first-round picks from Duke to fill in for De’Andre Hunter and John Collins.

  • FA Shooting Guard #14
A.J. Griffin started for the second time in his career, finishing with 24 points (11-for-16 FGs), three rebounds, one assist, three steals, two triples and two turnovers in a win over the Nuggets on Friday.
In Atlanta’s first game without De’Andre Hunter, Griffin got the start for the Hawks and filled it up with steals and triples once again. Trae Young was also out, though that isn’t a long-term injury, and Jarrett Culver started alongside Griffin on the wing. It’s unclear which player will start when Young is back, but both should play big minutes either way. Griffin had three steals and three triples in his first start, and he added multiple of each in this start as well. Griffin is rostered in just 7% of leagues, while Culver is rostered in 3%.
