With Camilo Doval needing a night off, Jake McGee got a save chance against the Braves on Wednesday and blew it by allowing three runs while recording just one out.
McGee was not the Giants’ best option, but Doval, Tyler Rogers and Dominic Leone had all worked three of the last four days (actually, four out of five for Doval). McGee had thrown 6 2/3 scoreless innings this month, lowering his ERA from 8.74 to 5.50. Still, he’s just not missing bats this year (13% strikeout rate) and he’d been extremely fortunate to allow just one homer before giving up Dansby Swanson’s 10th of the year tonight. He should be through as a saves candidate.
