The 36-year-old southpaw has struggled in recent seasons, but he was once considered among the top left-handed relievers in all of baseball. He finishes his career with a 3.71 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 79 saves and a 613/156 K/BB ratio over 572 1/3 innings spanning 13 big league seasons with the Rays, Rockies, Dodgers, Giants, Brewers and Nationals.

The 36-year-old southpaw had been designated for assignment earlier in the week and is now free to latch on anywhere else he so chooses. He appeared in 12 games during his time with the Nationals, registering a 6.30 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 10/5 K/BB ratio over 10 innings. He has now been cut loose by the Nationals, Giants and Brewers already this season.

McGee struggled during a month-long stay with the Nats. He’ll now look to latch on with a fourth team this season.

McGee was designated for assignment last weekend after making just six underwhelming relief appearances for Milwaukee. The 36-year-old left-hander has recorded a bloated 7.00 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 15/7 K/BB ratio across 27 innings (30 appearances) this season between the Brewers and Giants.

McGee’s time with the Brewers was short-lived after the team added him following his release from the Giants. The 36-year-old left-hander was not able to replicate his successful 2021 season, posting a 7.00 ERA and 1.52 WHIP across 27 innings.

McGee hasn’t allowed a run in either of his appearances for the Brewers thus far after signing with the club. The former Giants closer had a 7.17 ERA in his time with San Francisco in 2022, but could be a solid part of the Milwaukee bullpen down the stretch.

The 35-year-old southpaw was released by the Giants just before the All-Star break after posting a gruesome 7.17 ERA and 1.55 WHIP across 21 1/3 innings. He’ll function in middle relief for the Brewers.

McGee was designated for assignment this past Saturday and passed through waivers unclaimed. The veteran reliever ultimately posted a 7.17 ERA in 21 1/3 innings of work this season for San Francisco.

With the Giants needing reinforcements in their bullpen, they decided to move on from the veteran southpaw. The 35-year-old entered the season as a possible closer but Camilo Doval’s breakout and his ineffectiveness proceeded the move. He has a 7.17 ERA on the year and this could be the end of the road for his great career.

McGee was not the Giants’ best option, but Doval, Tyler Rogers and Dominic Leone had all worked three of the last four days (actually, four out of five for Doval). McGee had thrown 6 2/3 scoreless innings this month, lowering his ERA from 8.74 to 5.50. Still, he’s just not missing bats this year (13% strikeout rate) and he’d been extremely fortunate to allow just one homer before giving up Dansby Swanson’s 10th of the year tonight. He should be through as a saves candidate.
