Jack Doyle announced his retirement from the NFL after nine seasons.
Doyle was signed by the Titans as an undrafted free agent in 2013. Tennessee released Doyle as part of final roster cuts in order to add him to their practice squad. However, Doyle was instead claimed off waivers by the Colts, and Doyle would go on to spend his entire nine-year career in Indianapolis. Doyle served primarily as quality depth and a rotational blocker for his first three seasons, before emerging as a co-starter in 2016 with tight end Dwayne Allen. Following Allen’s departure in the 2016 offseason, Doyle emerged as the Colts’ starting tight end and set career highs in receptions (80) and receiving yards (690). His 2017 campaign earned him a Pro Bowl selection as an injury replacement for Rob Gronkowski. Over 131 career games, Doyle finished with 295 receptions for 2,729 yards and 24 TDs. With Mo Alie-Cox a free agent, second-year tight end Kylen Granson currently sits atop the Colts’ depth chart.

  • FA Wide Receiver #16
Colts wideout T.Y. Hilton is reportedly considering retirement.
TE Jack Doyle, another Colts mainstay, apparently also is considering retirement. “If I want to play one more year,” Hilton said, “I could play one more year. If not, then I won’t. So (I’ll) just talk to [Doyle], see how he’s feeling and once he makes his decision, I’ll kind of know what I want to do kind of based on him. Whether it’s here or whether it’s somewhere else, I’ll make my decision some time in the offseason.” Hilton missed seven games due to injury last year and was lapped by Michael Pittman as the offense’s primary wideout.

  • FA Tight End #84
Colts TE Jack Doyle caught 1-of-2 targets for 11 yards in Week 18 against Jacksonville.
It ends another quiet season for Doyle, who had one or fewer catches in 11-of-17 games. Doyle split time as the blocking complement to Mo Alie-Cox, with both playing over 50% of snaps. Owed just $750K guaranteed, the Colts would save $5.4 million if they moved on from Doyle this offseason.

  • IND Tight End #81
Mo Alie-Cox caught 3-of-5 targets for 28 yards in the Colts’ Week 17 loss to the Raiders.
Alie-Cox was the team’s primary pass-catching tight end with Jack Doyle struggling through ankle and knee injuries. Alie-Cox, who ran a pass route on just 55.4 percent of the Colts’ Week 17 drop backs, would have fleeting streaming appeal in Week 18 if Doyle is sidelined.

  • FA Tight End #84
Jack Doyle was not targeted in the Colts’ Week 17 loss to the Raiders.
Doyle was playing through knee and ankle issues in a contest where Carson Wentz attempted a modest 27 passes. With two catches for 13 yards over his past three appearances, Doyle has disappeared from TE2 relevance just as quickly as he re-appeared in late November/early December.

  • FA Tight End #84
Jack Doyle (knee, ankle) is questionable for Week 17 against the Raiders.
Doyle practiced in full on Friday, though it was the first time he participated all week. Mo Alie-Cox quietly logged a season-high 90% of Indianapolis’ snaps with Doyle battling through ankle and knee injuries on Saturday and would reprise that role as a usage-based TE1 if the latter is ruled out against Las Vegas.

  • FA Tight End #84
Jack Doyle (knee/ankle) missed practice on Thursday for the second consecutive day.
It’s looking more and more likely that it’ll be a Mo Alie-Cox day for the Colts in Week 17 against the Raiders. Doyle has been dinged up all season and played just two snaps against the Cardinals last week.

  • FA Tight End #84
Jack Doyle (knee, ankle) did not practice Wednesday.
Doyle was re-injured after two snaps last week against the Cardinals. He’s been battling knee and ankle issues for weeks. Doyle’s absence would benefit Mo Alie-Cox after he played a season-high 90% of the snaps in Doyle’s absence last week.

  • FA Tight End #84
Colts ruled out TE Jack Doyle (ankle, knee) for the rest of Week 16 against the Cardinals.
Jack Doyle was injured in the first quarter and was ruled out for the rest of the game. His injury should open up additional snaps for Mo Alie-Cox.

  • FA Tight End #84
Jack Doyle (ankle) was limited in Wednesday’s practice.
Doyle wasn’t on the injury report Tuesday, so he might’ve been hurt in practice Wednesday. The veteran has 0-1 catches in 7-of-13 games this season and isn’t on the fantasy radar. Mo Alie-Cox would benefit if Doyle sits Saturday against New England.
