Chargers signed G/T Ike Ndukwe, formerly of the Giants.
The Bolts are acknowledging their O-Line woes by signing several versatile veterans this week. Ndukwe, 29, has made 18 career starts since breaking into the league in 2005. San Diego should hope that he doesn’t see the field.
  • Chargers waived G/T Ike Ndukwe.
Ndukwe got involved in a fight with teammate DE Vaughn Martin during Thursday’s practice, dropping Martin with a punch and then kicking Martin when he was on the ground. Ndukwe received his walking papers a day later.
  • Dolphins signed G Ike Ndukwe off the Ravens’ practice squad.
Ndukwe has bounced around for the past two seasons and never shaken the label of “project.” The Dolphins will carry him to the offseason.
  • FA Guard #66
Dolphins G Donald Thomas recently suffered a torn pectoral muscle during workouts, according to Scout.com’s Adam Caplan.
He will miss all of training camp, but is said to have a good chance to be ready for Week 1 of the regular season. Thomas’ backup Ike Ndukwe played the majority of last season after the starter went down with a Lisfranc injury in Week 1. This likely costs Thomas any shot to regain his first-team gig.
  • SEA Tackle
Brandon Frye has been playing right guard with the first unit since Donald Thomas went down with a torn biceps two weeks ago.
Frye, signed off the Texans’ practice squad last season, is undersized but athletic. The Dolphins are also rotating Shawn Murphy in, and coach Tony Sparano indicated that he’s still most comfortable with last year’s starter Ike Ndukwe.
  • Coach Tony Sparano says the Dolphins’ starting right guard job is Shawn Murphy’s to lose.
Murphy, a fourth-round pick last year, was inactive for his entire rookie season but had a standout spring. He’s ahead of Ikechuku Ndukwe and Donald Thomas on the depth chart. Murphy was a nasty run blocker in college.
  • Chiefs beat writer Adam Teicher says that if Ike Ndukwe plays well Saturday night, he could be a starter by next week.
Larry Johnson is averaging 2.8 yards per carry in the preseason and Matt Cassel has been under constant heavy pressure. The Chiefs’ offensive line is a disaster, and Ndukwe is unlikely to change that.
  • Chiefs acquired OGs Ikechuku Ndukwe and Andy Alleman from the Dolphins in exchange for an undisclosed draft pick in 2010.
It must have been an interesting Sunday night dinner for Bill Parcells and his son-in-law, Chiefs GM Scott Pioli. Ndukwe could start at right guard for the Chiefs, and Alleman may be pushed to center where he’d be an upgrade on Rudy Niswanger and Eric Ghiaciuc. The Dolphins are obviously happy with the progress of guards Donald Thomas and Shawn Murphy.
  • Newly acquired Ike Ndukwe was immediately placed at right tackle and Andy Alleman at right guard in their first practice with the Chiefs.
It speaks to the wretched state of the Chiefs line that two Dolphins castoffs are seen as possible upgrades. Ndukwe, a backup guard for three years, would be a major weakness at tackle. Matt Cassel may threaten the sacks-taken record this season.
  • The Chiefs have promoted Ryan O’Callaghan into the starting lineup at right tackle.
The musical chairs continue. Week 3 starter Ike Ndukwe is now the backup RT. The Chiefs have served up eight sacks so far -- seventh most in the NFL.
